Bull-fuckin-shit. It's really hard to believe her clip is taken out of context. I've watched it over and over again.We knew hundreds of years ago that it was wrong. If a child was raped in this country, 150 years ago, if it was found out that this had happened he would have been lynched. Now there are people writing articles that state " Who are we to judge a pedophiles sexual choices? Maybe we should do a ten year study of kids in "loving" relationships" w/ pedophiles." Those bastards should be lynched too.

Even if it was taken out of context, it's an abomination to say, "We did'nt know 20 years ago!"

I have to second what Avishai posted.

20 years ago I was a Jehovahs Witness; full time pioneer; ministerial servant. Of course EVERYONE knew that child abuse of any kind was WRONG. The same way you knew that murder was wrong.

Back in the late 1970s. My pioneer sister was asked to take a young girl "under her wing" to encourage her. The girls family was not so theocratic. One day in service the girl was black and blue. When my sister aked what happend to her, the girl replied " my mother did this to me". My sister discreetly spoke to the elders about the situation . The mothers answer to the elders was that she was following the scriptures "spare the rod and spoil the child', she insisted that her daughter was "encorigable" and a troublemaker.

Elders prayed and encouraged the family to do more spiritually. Elders did their job. End of story.

You knew the difference between a "spanking" and a "beating" . Abuse happend and you did what you could to prevent it . Of course the Watchtower knew. For them to say otherwise is just a lie ( are any of us surprised?) .

The difference NOW in the USA, physical or corporeal punishment of a child ( certain age) is considered a crime, and is considered physical abuse. The laws I have read are very specific; including slapping a child in the face, or using any object; such as a paddle, to strike them.

And now the WTS ( and any other religious body) will have to acknowledge and report such abuse to secular authorities if it is brough to their attention. That will be something to follow.
