Since all of the names up to the time of the "Tower of Babel" are of Semitic origin it is most likely that the Semitic language existed from Adam to the "Tower of Babel". It is possible that these names were translated into Semitic names because the writers of these accounts were Semitic, but if this were true, why didn't they translate the other names which are of "foreign" origin?

Based on this evidence it would appear that the Semitic language was the first language of man.

I have read this section several times, and still can't figure out his logic.

By the way, I find it very coincidental that Naomi's sons-in-law were named "sickness" and "wasting". It seems rather coincidental to me.

Yes it is pretty silly. Also many of postulated "Hebrew" etymologies are wrong, and it is not true that antediluvian names are derived straightforward from Hebrew. "Eve" and "Noah" are good examples of problematic etymologies.

It seems they were given names according to their life's history by someone writting about them. I wonder what their real names were while living???

Now I know why they named the gold mine behind my home town "Tubal Cain"!!! Really though, I though a evil tree couldn't bring forth "good fruit". Seems Adam and Cain both begat a lotta neat people, like Mary, Abraham, on and on right up to Minimus!

    Paradigms.

At one time I would have said, "this is logical". Does anyone else here remember when the Society implied we would be speaking Hebrew in the "New World" because it was the language Adam spoke?

I wondered if we would wear towels on our heads too. Seriously.

IMAO, that was stupidly funny. I bet the guy that wrote this has no knowlege of Linguistics at all. Of course the Damn names are Semitic, the books of the OT were written in a Semitic language. But the name also have older versions then the ones in the bible. Some of the Names come from Sumerian/Akkadian, some were also from Pesia, Egypt ect ect., sheesh, this dude is rock dumb.
