Peyote was/is a popular hallucinagenic in many native american rituals. I've never known anyone actually hallucinate on cannabis either.

I used to wonder about this very subject. Perhaps something not even known as canabus in those days, or perhaps other stuff that was even more powerful.
Perhaps it was Mary Magdeline who introduced these "things" to Jesus, and why so much of what he spoke about seemed way above the heads of even his own followers. Maybe this is why the deciples took offense that he spent so much time with Mary and why they seemed to have this unusual and special relationship.
Guess we will really not get a definitive answer to this one.
