Do you think that JW's will ever get rid of the 1914-doctrine?

With the current purge, the relevance of a date in the doctrine is minuscule. Now they are down to requiring blind faith in the group and in the Governing Body. If the victim says they do not believe in the Governing Body, no dates have any relevance. Belief in the Governing Body is more important than the belief in the belief because if the Governing Body changes the belief, the group member has no choice but to believe the new belief. So belief in a belief is not important because all belief is fluid and the only belief that is important is belief in those who establish and publish the belief. So, in that respect, they have already gotten rid of 1914. The only people who believe in it are those who silently submit to the pressure to believe anything published by the Governing Body.

If you like being a Witness nothing is questioned because nothing is questionable.

    Well said Gary.

Sadly, I sense, that Gary's last comment is right on. The Society is a chameleon changing colors unnoticed as the blind lead the blind marching through it.

There is no need to get rid of the date -- just change the meaing of generation and that takes care of that -- think about it

Scrub, They really changed the definition of the generation in 1995.

They still teach Armageddon started in 1914 only invisibly, and Jesus returned in that year only invisibly, and Jesus started his inspection of all religions only invisibly, and he picked the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation which was printing the truth invisibly, and he appointed the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation as his channel in 1919 only invisibly.

1914 still is a fundemental jw teaching. To deny this is to ignore what is obvious.

The r f still believes in this teaching and the wt still refers to the date as a basis, or in support of certain doctrines, particularly to show that we are still living in the time of the end. The wts has not given up in suggesting new doomsday dates in connection with 1914.

It keeps "holding out the carrot" and the bros in the r and f are still going for it, clutching on to a hope that that never will be realized in their life time.

H owever, the date is being seen less and less in the literature, and is not stressed as before in connection with the last days, while simmultaneously it is belived to be the date of the return of Jesus by jws.

WT critics are showing that the wts while stuck with the date are not giiving it the importance it once had in the wt movement to the minds of jws bellievers by not stressing it so much. But although it is being made to seem less important in jws minds, most wts teachings pivot on this date, so it is the solid foundation on which the wt stands. The minds of the jws though, are in captivity to wt logic so the wts can lead the f lock to belive what it wants.

"we are serving god with reference to a date but with eternity in view""...you have sayings of everlasting life"' "he that has endured to the end will be saved"

Right now I am re-reading Crisis of Conscience, and am going through the chapters regarding the dates. How many witnesses actually understood how they came up with the dates. I bet less than 1%. Confuse them, and they won't even try to understand.

Today's Watchtower study:1914 is still being used as the begining of the time of the end???

So Blue as my post shows, again, on the other hand, as I said before , 1914 is a solid wt teaching

Whoever it was in the writing department that wrote the recent article that undoubtedly was designed to draw parallels (for JW's who have been around long enough to know how to "read between the lines") between the 120 years of Noah and the time since 1914, that guy must be the toast of the town at Bethel.

He bought them 30 more years of shelf-life on the 1914 doctrine. Just in the nick of time, when it was really starting to hang from their neck like an albatross.

A cunning and slippery bunch they are.
