    Demons? In garage sales?

Not that I'm surprised or anything like that, but I've obviously messed something.

Will someone please give me the low-down on demons in garage sales? I'm sitting down and braced for this latest rush of utter stupidity.

They always sell demons at car boot sales, 40p each, 3 for £2. Strange how only JW's buy them though. They must love demons.

I just dont get why the hell demons will possess a material object...

    Hi Francoise,
Yeah, Demons can enter objects, objects sold at garage sales and the like can be bought by JWs, then JWs can have demon problems in their houses. Many JWs will not buy used things for this reason. Many will buy at sales but if their are religious objects or books on the wrong things in the sale they won't buy anything at that sale. I am surprised that you didn't know this. Led a sheltered life in this area, eh?

When my first husband and I were having one bout, of the many bouts of marital trouble, we went around putting all sorts of stuff in the garage. I even tossed out a number of things I now wish I hadn't. We should have tossed out the religion and maybe our marriage would have made it!

One young couple had problems with the demons in their house and they discovered the demons were in the card table behind a door in the kitchen. Burned the table and no more demons. Now, tell me, if you were a demon, would you pick a ratty ol' card table to live in forever. And were did the demon go once it left the table? Did it hunt down another card table somewhere? Or is it like reincarnation, and it got to chose a better object to move into until it worked its way into a human? I can't believe that I believed this stuff and never once considered questioning it!

There are a lot more stories I could tell you and make you laugh.

Lindy, a sis you knew well once burned our only suitcase while the little brothers spent a week at the farm visiting. You know who I mean, doncha? They worked on that big dairy outfit that only hired Jaydubs...she claimed they heard footsteps upstairs in the hallway when no one was there, and she just KNEW it was the suitcase, so she chopped it up & burned it 'and it didn't burn easy and made a squealing noise.' OOhh,the horror...

sent the kids home with their clothes in a bag and fear of all secondhand stuff in their hearts. Never occurred to any of those scared children to consider 1) it was an old wooden house set on a windy hill; it creaked and groaned constantly, it ALWAYS sounded like things were thumping around upstairs! and 2)how did they know what is a 'normal' burn rate (or sound) for old luggage?

And they always tell the stories in hushed voices, real serious, and everybody nods and shivers, and the conversation is never short, everyone wants to top the last one...

and this was one of the annoying superstitious things that helped drive me out of the cult. I hated getting buttonholed in the car in field service by a wide-eyed pioneer telling those stories and speculating about other JWs who probably had demons due to careless association with secondhand worldly filth.

Didn't the cong we went to as kids have all the wild tales & superstitions, Auntie? And the car groups were THE place to circulate 'em...all that rural territory, so many captive hours to spread the fear.

    Dear Mommie,
Were the intials of the sister D.B.? I am not sure who you meant because I don't remember the little brothers staying there and that farm is the only one I can remember and B's were the only ones that were JWs that I can remember. But I may not have realized there were others, or my memory needs to be reminded. If it the place, she was annointed ya know, so she should have known a demon suitcase when she saw one! LOL!

Cracking and popping and hissing when things burn is definitly a sign of demons. Squealing noises are a absolute sure sign from God himself! The demons are leaving to enter swine at the neighboring farm, so they are practicing their new language!!

The stories in the car groups!! Whew! There were some doozies! I quess they whispered them or talked in hushed voices so the demons wouldn't hear!? As far as topping each others stories, the JWs love to do that on ANY subject! Everyone had something worse or even better (if they are talking about good things.) than the next guy. It is the only entertainment they get.

The rural territory was great! There are so many old houses with stories of demons attatched to them! We wouldn't even drive into some of the driveways unless we had a brother with us! No wonder we are warped Mommie!

    Larc,

You're an ol' sweetie. I hope tattoogirl reads this thread. Yeah, we had demon scares here in South Carolina and in Indiana, where I was originally.

When we went to garage sales, if we saw a Playboy (pornography) or a paperback that anything to do with demonism, or any kind of drug paraphanelia(sp?) - we wouldn't buy anything there. "Better safe than sorry."

Because we knew that once demons got into your house by these objects - it was terribly hard to get rid of them. We've all heard the stories about ashtrays zooming around the room, Smurfs walking across the floor, etc.

Personally, none of that stuff happened to me - but I've heard stories throughout the years - and jw's don't lie, now do they?

I believe that if there are physical beings there are spiritual ones. Demons included.

I know that a lot of you are going to call this stupid, but here goes.

This to me made a lot of sense to me and many times it still does, because, for me, it just has a logical construct. It is not based on the bible or JW & WTBS thinking (at least I don't think it is, but it did come from a JW elder).

He said that the demons are just like us, created by the same God.

They have many same kind of likes and dislikes and friends and enemies just like we do, except in a differnet realm.

Some became so attached to women that they came to the earth during Noah's day and had children (Hey don't laugh, I read that in the Anchor bible dictionary just last night). That attachment doesn't necesarrily confine itself to people either. i.e. People remember decades later a favroite family pet, that can still bring a tear to the eye. We also become very attached to things. Who doesn't have their favorite old raggedy chair?

Well since they are basically ageless and don't die, their loves did die and/or other attachments had to be given up. Whereupon this unatural attachment for people and things was broken. Their love goes unrequited and that attachment/love still may prevail their thinking at times, as it does for us on occaision.

Likewise, when a person holds an item in their hand it draws back memories good or bad. Or when a person sees someone that looks just like a dead relative all those emotions come back, for some more strongly than others. It can apply to many things, smells, sounds, photograhs, family videos and other recordings, etc. We are incredibly complex creatures. Who knows what affect us.

Well when the demons are reminded of things all those things may come flooding back to them good or bad, in much the same way it does for us. If you happen to have an object that they "relate" to then you may become a target, for good or bad depending on their mood.

I know it sounds korny, but I thought I would share it anyway, but for me, it gets me through it.

I've got a lot of things from yard/garage/church sales. Many bargins.

I bought an old toaster from an Amish family for 25 cents. Found out within the week it's worth $50, not to mention more valuable to someone trying to complete a collection. We also got a jet black kitten from them. The family name for him is "Shadow." I sometimes I call him the Little Amish Bastard -when he craps on the couch, or
?Stolztfuss -the name of the family we got him from.

    thewiz,
I can't say that I disagree with a lot of what you say. We just don't know, and I wonder about that sort of stuff too. But when you become fanatic and blame the "demons" for normal life problems, rather than work them out, by throwing material things into fires and the like, you escape reason and responsibility for your own actions, thus giving your control over to an organization that promotes this type of behavior.
BTW, nothing you present as your opinion with and an open-mind is "stupid". Exchanging thoughts and ideas is how we become informed and how we learn to adjust our own ideas and thoughts. We do not live in a vacuum and we all are a bit, to say the least in some cases, different than everyone else.
