This morning (12/3/16) on Fox and Friends ( A news show on the Fox network) there was a great news piece. It featured one of the newscasters and her parents, who happened to be the former governor of Utah (Jon Huntsman).

Religion ( The Mormon church) has obviously played a large role in their family life. It's great when people can embrace God and their life goals. After being a witness, it seems impossible to ever enjoy this type of euphoric feeling. The Mormon church may be flawed, but it seems to help make people better. It pushes people above and beyond mediocrity. Worldly/material success will always be viewed in a negative light in the world of Jay dubs! In hindsight, that makes it hard for any halfway intelligent family head to raise their children in a religion that pushes mediocrity ( but pushes good salesmanship skills).

The Mormon church is a net harm on society rather than a net gain. They extort income in the form of a tithe that goes to HQ and is used however the leaders see fit.

They don't pay taxes, like all religions, thus they basically play outside the rules of that the rest of us abide by when trying to make a living.

Add to that they trick people into believing magical things happen when you die with zero proof, thus they don't live out their full potential in the limited time they have on this earth.

Their are Jehovahs witnesses who are business people and have had very successful enterprises going despite what the majority of the rank and file JW`s experience .

It has nothing to do with what religion a person belongs to its more like the drive and ambition of the individuals involved.

As one Elder in business said to me ," Religion and Business are two different sides of a coin not to be confused with each other "

In other words Business and Religion are two different worlds that dont mix.

I have been associated with a few JW`s who run their own business some small and two not so small and they all agree

The JWs have the lowest average family income of all US religions. Not surprisingly, they also have the lowest level of educational attainment.

There is no reason to think this is different for other countries.

The US Small Business Asminstraton has posted data showing business owners are more likely to be in upper income brackets than those working for others.

Anecdotal evidence is rarely evidence, and in this case it is anything but.

A few prosperous dub business owners does not change the facts. Dubs are taught from birth to bury their ambition, aspirations and goals.

There is both anecdotal and empirical evidence suggesting that template has resulted in financially challenged, socially dysfunctional familes and individuals.

Think - and research - before you approach the keyboard?

As for Mormons, do some homework and report back to Prof DJS.

Ok, lazy brained and just plan lazy, Prof DJS is once again doing the research for all you slackers and dullards.

Mormons are more likely than other religions to have some college, but they are average when it comes to the % of those with degrees. Nonetheless, some college, based on the data, translates into higher family income and family and individual functionality.

BTW, Hindus are No. 2: My GF is a (secular) Hindu. And an MD. All the Hindus I've met (again, anecdotal but supported by the empirical data) have either advanced college degrees (Hindus along with Jews have the highest level of educational attainment. Class, are we starting to see a correlation?) or own their own businesses.

Mormons rank in the middle of the pack for family income. The Dubs? Last place. From the Pew Research Foundation and from 2014:

    Additional analysis:

Based on the Pew Research, American Jews overwhelmingly say they are proud to be Jewish and have a strong sense of belonging to the Jewish people, according to a major new survey by the Pew Research Center. But the survey also suggests that Jewish identity is changing in America, where one-in-five Jews (22%) now describe themselves as having no religion.

American Hindus are largely secular. Identifying as either Jewish or Hindu is in large part a cultural identity, as these two religions often place little emphasis on religious beliefs but value the cultural and social aspects of their legacy/tradition/struggle.

So, class, if the secular/atheist/agnostic Jews and Hindus self identified solely based on this rather than their religion, it is likely that the atheist/agnostic groups would have both the highest level of educational attainment and family income.

Geesh, y'all get this stuff for free. My clients pay a lot of $ for this kind of analysis.

Sure! What they don't show is when one of the members of the family doesn't believe what the church believes and ends up sunned, nor when one of the members of the church is molested by someone in the congregation, or when the congregation expects their members to give them all their money, or expect them to make decisions in their best interest, not in the interest of a family.

    No church makes people better.

DJS - Thank you for all your info/research. I think most know the Jewish people value education and encourage their children to be professionals or own businesses. i didn't know the success of the Hindus and thank you for sharing info. Makes sense with so many in the medical profession and the positives about them.

It used to be rumored in my area the Mormans were following in the footsteps of the Jewish people re/education and the professions. Many are lawyers/doctors/politicians and business entrepreneurs here -- and I'm shocked re/their lack of degrees.

    Again, thanks.

JWs can have great families, what with J&j, the angels and the elders watching over the faithfulness of parents, rearing their kids, but Mormons, Hindus, Jewish people often have great families too, but real education counts, is primary goal, not awake college.

    thanks djs,
