Ah well!
Flying into London Heathrow will probably be quite an expensive exercise unless you can get a last minute deal. Heathrow is home to the prestigious National carrier type of airline so that's where you'll most likely end up if you fly British Airways or Alitalia etc.
London Gatwick, whilst less convenient in its location, is home to the charter type of flight and the less salubrious airlines such as North West or Virgin. It's about 2 1/2 hours from my place, but Birmingham is a similar distance too, so that's another option. Bristol airport is a regional one, so USA flights are very limited.
All the airports are home to the bus company National Express, so while £30 would be a fairly typical fare it will probably be less expensive than the train. Where I live is on the National Express route so you'd probbly only have to make one change, however I could collect you at Bristol Bus Station and then you wouldn't have to make any changes at all. hmm...can one get banned from the UK? After a Minnesota Apostafest I got banned from the Minneapolis Greyhound station...One wonders what it takes to get kicked off a whole island? *LOL*.. Wish I could stash my bike in my carry on ...eh
