What I found helpful is to replace the JW "theocratic lingo" with equivalent terminology that doesn't carry the emotional baggage. I try and do this in conversation sometimes and will often re-read a publication substituting the "new lingo" for the emotionally potent phrases we grew up with. Here are some examples:

    Replace "Jehovah" with "Yahweh"

    "congregation" with "church"

    "the Society/organization" with "corporation"

"governing body" with "grand council" (or something like that).

    "New System" with "Utopian pipedream"

    Get the picture? It helps.

"The Truth" p*sses me off no end, even when I hear it here. It was one of the first words I removed from my vocabulary.

Me too, Ross. I still cringe when I hear that phrase. Now we say "the real truth", which is "JW's do NOT have the truth".

so what do you replace Everlasting Life with?

Living well? Works for me. Also, "this is the real life.................this is IT!!!"

if it is the everlasting life in a JW paradise you replace it with HELL

Why do people worry so much about life after death or living forever? Enjoy what you have...it reminds me of a child that is never satisfied. If there is more then great...but why not just make the best of what you KNOW you have?

edited to add that I am not trying to minimize anyone's feelings...but I just don't understand I guess...

reality. Hey, it ain't so bad. 6 billion other people, and billions before us all, have had to deal with reality either before, or at time of, death. If you can find a way to avoid death, you'll be the first person in the history of humankind to do so. Hardly seems worth trying for when you put it that way, eh?

Just one other thought: the JWs think they have some kind of monopoly on the idea of "everlasting life." Bullshit! Most religions, especially the Judeo/Christian/Islamic ones, have a doctrine of life beyond the one we now have. It's very annoying when I hear stuff like from JWs.

I've been working at a different location than where I normally do and today for the first time I noticed on one of the walls a British and American flag hung right next to each other. My immediate thought was "Anglo-American", the last great world empire according to Freddie Franz's interpretation of Daniel.

So you're not alone. I hate it when I hear the words, or see in print, the words "Peace and Security".

I can identify with what ?mortons68? said:

?In her perspective, she thinks you have commited the ultimit sin,?

    and also what ?DanTheMan? said:

?I hate it when I hear the words, or see in print, the words ?Peace and Security.??

My father has always been using the WT religion to scare me into ?being a good boy? and not ?doing anything bad.? (It somewhat backfired ? I?m here, as you can see.) Although I haven?t physically gone the DA?ing route (can?t right now ? still have to stay at home for a while to stabilize my financial situation), I have begun at least in my own mind to question the technical and moral validity of all that has been forced on me my whole life ? i.e., all the rhetoric and ?trigger words? ? from the big Borg.

When I was much younger (early teens), I would almost succumb to a panic attack at the mere mention of unforgivable sin, as well as the impending ?peace and security? scenario ? and what that is supposedly to herald immediately thereafter. However, now, since I?ve allowed myself the luxury of actually questioning (albeit secretively) the ?divine teachings? of the GB and it?s alleged role as God?s exclusive representation on earth by investigating such candid sites as this, I find that those ?trigger words? don?t really have quite the same impact on me. My conditioned fear is slowly becoming tempered with resentment, anger, and a stronger desire to take charge of my life, which I hope in the end will find positive expression.

I find that knowledge ? as in an unbiased, free, and unfettered kind of investigation (troooof!) ? as well as the freedom to associate with others who respect or at least appreciate such knowledge (such as the folks here) are the best antidotes to the oppression of being tormented by such jargon words. So whenever those ?trigger words? cause you confusion and anxiety, just remember that nobody can rightfully obligate anyone to be intimidated by them. Instead, let rational and objective logic calm your mind. Just the fact that this armageddon has been ?around the corner? for over a century and that the line of perspective from the Watchtower has had more twists and turns than a pretzel going through a black hole should do the trick!

    ? SAHS
