If memory serves the JWs were incorrect with their math when they first tried to determine the 1914 date. I believe they used the start dates of 536 BCE and 606 BCE instead of 537 BCE and 607 BCE.
I believe Russell forget that there was NO 0 AD and thus his calculation should have shown an end date of 1915. Of course back then they were confirming the end of the world crap.
I then believe it was in 1942-43 (as Alan F. noted in his articles that are posted at Osarif's web site - http://www.geocities.com/osarsif/606.htm ) that good old Fredie cleaned things up with his pen and paper by changing the calendar around some 7 months on the 536 BCE to 537 BCE date to get the date back to 1914.
Maybe the learned professor would like to comment.
Thanks GermanJW... I'm not really planning to contact his superiors! Nor will I attack him regarding his beliefs. I get a bit overly excited when something like this happens! However, I'd like to know if Watchtower actually quoted him correctly. Also, I'd like to know if he is truly free of any doubts as to the 1914 calculation. If he is, it would be rather surprising, since I'd say, many (maybe most) in writing, the "heavy's", have doubts!
Thanks for your follow-through on getting correct contact information!
I emailed Mr. Williams about the article and asked him if he would be so kind to send me a link where I could read "HIS" exact words prior to its submission to the WT staff.
