Does the Watchtower Share the Fatal Flaw of Tyrants?

In time, any closed totalitarian system that suppresses dissent and free inquiry will fall apart. When you remove

the checks and balances of contrary opinion, the resulting organization will eventually ooze deception at every pore.

Even the leadership will be unable to know what internal information is accurate or not.

History is loaded with this fatal flaw of tyrants, repeated again and again. Saddam Hussein may have believed he held

weapons of mass destruction that never existed. It is said that he once shot dead a cabinet minister who presented negative

statistics. His successor presented cheerier numbers. Was it any great wonder that he was deceived on countless matters?

Hitler proclaimed that the Nazis were invincible. He then BELIEVED HIS OWN lie and defeated himself by attacking

Russia. Catherine the Great wanted to see prosperity in her land so one of her ministers set up fake villages in the Ukraine

and Crimea , filled with fake happy peasants. This fiction ( now called a "Potemkin Village") served to impress the Empress.

Tyrants must be kept happy, true or not.

In the modern day, Nixon surprized the world by going to China. What was truly surprizing , however, was that the Chinese

government requested the help of the CIA thereafter to offer statistics on their economy. Why? BECAUSE THE LEADERSHIP

COULDN'T TRUST THEIR OWN PEOPLE to give them accuracy! - and these tyrants were smart enough to realize it!

Now that you've digested the above, consider the evolving structure of the Watchtower Society. Would you say that

it has become more honest, more forthright, more internally truthful in recent years? Do you really think its leaders

get an accurate picture of what's really going on? ... and...

MORE THAN THIS, do you think that the Watchtower leaders will likely end up being fooled into believing the deceptions

that they themselves maintain? Does the Bible refer to "impostors misleading and being misled"? ( 2 Tim 3).

They proclaim a quarter million baptisms worldwide a year. Do they ever reason that much of this is fake because

of the huge percentage of Witness kids dunked - only to please their parents and eagerly awaiting their ability to

leave the "truth", AS THEY DO IN GREAT NUMBER?

They publish increases in publishers - after elders 'strong-arm' the inactive and commit to counting 15 publishers.

Throw in countless fake publishers ( like me) and .... Who's building a "Potemkin Village" here?

They proclaim that they have no paid clergy - but fund Circuit Overseers and pay for their cars and insurance and expenses,

while their lawyers fight for "clerical privilege" for elders in court. Does one Department talk to another?

They believed in their own strength and invented the "voluntary donation" arrangement. Afterwards, contributions

plummeted like a rock and today --- we have minimal literature, paperback books, no mailed subscriptions and no assembly

food service. Do they ever feel like Hitler invading Russia? Did they need to bring in outside consultants to assess their

financial state recently because they can't trust their own structure?

I can think of no greater emotional example of this conceit born out of self-deception than the day - many years ago-

when the Society "freed the slaves". Bethel was full of suppressed anger and dissent as countless brothers refused

to stay "four full years" as Knorr demanded. After years of ranting and raving - and dismissal of complaint,

they announced that all such were free to go, without punishment or sanction. The reaction at the Bethel was incredible-

with tears streaming down some faces - and complete repudiation of everything Knorr had been ranting about. When

they announce that the "End is Soon!" at a district assembly and don't get the immediate clapping they expected,

    do they worry a little?

Sadly, I can never recall any incident in which any Circuit or District Overseer ever asked for a truly honest opinion

of any situation in any congregation I served in. There ALWAYS was some ulterior motive or unannounced plan or

immediate reaction by happy sycophants who discerned What He Really Wanted To Hear. I couldn't agree with you more,

    Brother Saddam.......

I bring up this subject - of self deception amidst tyrants - because after reading recent magazines and Kingdom Ministries

I believe that they are intensifying their deceptions. Far from seeking ethical reform, they seem fated to live out some

sort of Greek tragedy, bound to deeper and deeper untruths, told with greater fierceness and frequency. Perhaps they'll

    find another Russia to invade.....

some interesting comparisons there. I think they have invaded russia . I must be easier for them to cover their trail in third world countries , it seems all they have to do is offer a shot at some free food or medical help for religions to find a following . The more developed nations have access to information such as we enjoy and can research the organization and it's doctrine changes .

I wonder if this self-deception will lessen as the old-guard dies off. I think that at the end of the day so much of this pumping up of statistics and denial of the extreme dysfunction that exists in Witness congs and families is to keep the 80+ year old's illusions intact.

Dan, hoping for a Jaracz heart attack in '04.

I absolutely agree. Because they insist they are Gods channel they HAVE to see what they want to see as proof! If something slaps them in the face that they cannot deny they claim it in a cleansing from God. Then just go on as if nothing had happened! They MUST lie to themselves first, beleive the lie, worship the lie, and then insist that all the "faithful' worship the liars! Sadly the Governing Body is as trapped as their subjects in their own lies! Good post Met! Maverick

    Great post metatron,

I like the comparisons. They are fitting.

I thought about this for a short while and my thoughts are that, while the WTS will become more repressive in the future over the ?Us vs. Them? fear mongering talk, the WTS will LIGHTEN the restrictions on the ?warm-fuzzy? stuff.

One can see from the current spew of literature, public talks, and DC & CA parts that the WTS is trying to crank up the fear of ever leaving the ?loving? flock.

Apostates are reported to have wild-all night orgies, constantly be drunk, infected with syphilis, and worse of all, make enough money to live a good, satisfying life!

?So brothers, why would anyone want to leave the protective wing of Jehover?s earthly organization for that? Because they have become: ?headstrong, puffed-up with pride, lovers of money, and have been led astray so as to partake in all forms of depravity!??

The fear will continue to run higher than ever IMHO.

    But?.

On the other end of the spectrum, one can see how the WTS is ?lightning the load? to keep the numbers high. Which keeps the money flowing. More people around, the more money the WTS gets.

So now you can Reg Pio with 70 hrs/mth instead of getting in your 1000 for the year. 15 minutes is good enough to get you off the irregular list. PiƱatas are OK if your conscience allows it. BTW, so is voting, alternative military service, serving on a jury, most parts of blood, screwing the poor sap MS?s wife as long as you do the one year time to get reinstated, and don?t even worry about reading your WatchTower before going in FS, we have written out what you have to say in the OKM.

    Warm and fuzzy.

And when ?outside forces? talk about things like the UN, false dates, and molestation cases, the majority of the warm bodies in the seats will say:

?Not my jehover! He?s a kind god who will forgive me for playing the Lotto and looking at porn as long as I tell the simpleton elders about my titillating escapades.?

?But if I ever question the brothers, well, I am no better than Korah and deserve to die tomorrow at Arm-a-gettin.?

As more and more of the R&F grouse about how tough it is, the more the asinine restrictions will be lightened.

Who knows what is next to be a ?conscience matter?; ?R? rated movies, some holidays or birthdays, ?10? hrs/mth, god knows what else. I do believe that the ?little things? will continue to be softened as long as it doesn?t interfere with the WTS? strangle hold on money or authority.

But if one dares to undermine the WTS? money or authority, and watch out; this kitten has claws!

Eventually here in the USA, the WTS will just fade into a softcore cult, a few shades shy of mainstream religion that will ever affect a few million lives. I don?t think that there will ever be a distinctive milestone like the end of the Cold War or even a discernable implosion to hear the last gasping breathes of the bloated, doomsday behemoth known as the WatchTower.

It?ll just fade away into a footnote, as it should.

    IMHO,

    Paul
