I would take more notice if it were Sam Carling who described JWs as a cult as he grew up in a JW household and knows what he is talking about. Cameron Thomas, on the other hand, has a family history of military service and has been with the Royal Air Force since he left school (2000-2023). While he is clearly qualified to withdraw troops from Afghanistan or rollout COVID-19 vaccines, his expertise doesn't seem to extend to distinguishing between faiths and cults. It is easy to disparage when you have parliamentary immunity.

I agree that some just “say it the way it IS”.
Many people don’t like the word ‘cult’ and are offended if it is applied to their group. While people realize the JWs aren’t like Jonestown or other notorious groups, they do have some characteristics that are similar.
I was watching a video from Bethany of ‘Stop the Shunning’ and she feels it is important that somebody in government referred to it as such. She feels that governments in particular won’t take the violations of the religion seriously if the word ‘cult’ were not used. I believe she has a point.
I guess time will tell what will happen with this development.

Cult or high control group it's seems to be getting harder to differentiate between the two terms, I think that jws have morphed from a cult to a modern day high control group.
Any group that uses physiological manipulation and coercive control to tell people how they dress and groom themselves ,who they can associate with and who they can talk too and what they can read and watch and what they have to believe in etc is a high control group,
