In the recent Awake, the following survey was published:

    TRUE FALSE

    1. Jehovah’s Witnesses are Christians.

    2. Jehovah’s Witnesses are creationists.

    3. Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe in doctors.

    4. Jehovah’s Witnesses accept the entire Bible.

    5. Jehovah’s Witnesses use only their own Bible translation.

    6. Jehovah’s Witnesses changed their Bible to fit their beliefs.

    7. Jehovah’s Witnesses shun community involvement.

    8. Jehovah’s Witnesses look down on people of other religions.

Thought it would be fun to get some survey results here after reading the WT answers. Here are some gems from the responses:

We try to follow closely the teachings and behavior of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:21) However, in a number of ways, we differ from other religious groups that are called Christian. Nor do we believe that those who take the lead in religious activities should have titles that elevate them above others.

The first sentence is an understatement if ever there was one. "We're Christians we just don't believe he is as important as other churches do. We spend most of our time talking about Jehovah, we pull the Jesus card out around memorial time." LOL The second statement is just a flat out lie, there are plenty of titles to go around in JW land and they are arranged in a hierarchy.

We believe that God created everything. But we do not agree with many who believe in creationism.

Hmmm...so JWs believe God created everything, yet they are saying they are not creationist? Creationist may have varying views but JWs still fit the criteria. Not to mention the fact that it is only recently that JWs have even admitted that the Earth is millions of years old.

We use many translations in our study of the Bible. In languages in which it is available, though, we especially appreciate the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures for its use of God’s name, for its accuracy, and for its clarity.

Many translations in our study? When was the last time there was a read scripture during the WT that wasn't from the new world translation? How many Bros. and Sisters bring any other translation to the meeting other than the NWT? When a Bible Study is started what translation is given to the student?

Our ministry benefits many in the community. We have helped many people to overcome harmful addictions, such as the abuse of drugs and alcohol. Our literacy classes help thousands around the world to learn to read and write.

True JWs do those things as a result of their preaching work. It must be asked though what the real intent is behind helping people with these problems. Do not JWs help people to read and write using WT publications? Isn't the real goal to create new converts? The same can be said of those with addictions they are given support (by people with no training) as long as they are "growing spiritually". If they stop studying then the support will likely stop as well.

We follow the Bible’s advice to “respect everyone”—regardless of their religious beliefs.Instead, we extend to others the same tolerance that we appreciate receiving from them.

Hard to respect someone that you're saying will be destroyed by God for being wicked and blinded by Satan. Sure JWs would not express those feelings directly to someone's face (or most wouldn't) but it is built into the doctrine. How could you not look down on others when you are taught that you are called by God to be his "special possession"? When taught as a young child that the birds of heaven would feast on the carcasses of the unbelievers?

#4 is laughably false. JWs accept the 200 or so "core texts" that, in isolation, appear to support their convoluted doctrine. They routinely ignore well over 99% of the Bible, especially scriptures which are more difficult than usual to twist to appear to support it.

The other answers given in that magazine are outrageously disingenuous, depending on JW redefinitions of terms like "Christian", "community involvement", "look down on", etc.

I brought a King James version to the meeting a few times and almost all that saw it had to make a comment that I had an incorrect version. It was uncanny

Very true, I wonder if you looked at year of WT studies how many scriptures would be used and which would be the most quoted? Maybe the one about the FDS LOL

Spin, spin, spin... The WTBTS does everything it can to appear unique among other sects of organized religions.

      1) They are as Xian as the the next guy, and have religious titles and a hierarchy. Just have the Eldubs over for cookies ( to show you aren't suicidal ) and have the "Flock" book and BOE letters out on your coffee table. Let me know how that goes.

      2) JWs are Old Earth Creationists.

      3) That is a stupid question, that stupid people ask. "Do you believe in Doctors?", she asked. He replied, "Yes, there's one right over there. Are you asking if I refuse certain medical treatments from Doctors? You're first question is something a five year-old might ask."

      4) This is false. Like most Xians, JWs pick and choose what they want to accept. Most dubs have never read the entire Bible, and they sure as hell have never picked up a Concordance. Just review the TMS Bible reading selections. It's the same menu for decades, just switched up a bit.

I have stuff to do now.

Well, to be fair most of it is useless. It must be hard to try to pick out a portion of some of those old testament books to read each week.

It's always interesting to see how JWs hate to be placed in any category with others who are not JW.

I mean, even this statement is nonsensical "But we do not agree with many who believe in creationism.", yes you don't agree about other things, but you do agree about creationism. Why not just say "Yes we are creationists"?

      1. JW teach salvation though works and obedience to seven men in Brooklynn and ignore all basic tenants of the New Testament, thus they are not Christians.

      2. Who cares

      3. No one has ever accused Jehovah Witnesses of being Christian scientists. Another stupid cult.

      4. Bullshit. (Saved though grace etc. etc.)

      5. Bullshit. JW only use the NWT

      6. Bullshit again, the NWT deliberately erases the deity of Christ. No serious bible scholar says it is a real translation.

      7. Bullshit again, JW are encouraged to have limited contact with “worldly people “and “worldly organizations “.

      8. Bullshit again, JWs refer to all over religions as “ False Religion “ and attending a simple meeting at another church, mosque or temple could get you disfellowshipped. (Unless they have a different definition of what disrespectful means.

      What a pile of shit.
