SICKENING & DISGUSTING, a older couple in the cong I go too just lost their 30+ yr old son/duaghter (can't give too much info) tragically in illness 2 months ago, they are still having difficulty with it & try to put up a happy front that they are doing fine thanks to the "hope" & this is just a slap in the face to them reminding them all over again of the grief & sorrow ...emotional manupulation .... it's heartless!!!!!!

I'm sure that many would feel it's 'beautiful' - but what I object to in the video is the commercialised pulling of people's emotions...

So, the bereaved are in the middle of the week, perhaps they have just finished a busy day at work, and face work early the next morning. Perhaps they are struggling to keep their lives together.

So, the witness must accept all things at meetings as directly coming from Jehovah - a spiritual diet and provision not to be missed.

So, there is the sense of 'must attend and sit through this' - but it ignores that some will feel utterly raw and bloody through it and afterwards...but there is no back up provision to care for their emotional state immediately afterwards.....you can't take people to the edge of their emotional tethers without a gentle and caring back up plan......there a time and place for drawing out raw grief....and it should be within the individuals control.

For the ones who just broke down, it's actually unthinking and cruel to draw out such rawness, whilst they sit so exposed....possibly next to someone they are not close to,.....it's wrong. Do you get that?

It was very well done, in good taste.

Is it not a principal part of our faith?! So, why not scenify how it might be?!

People... Pleeeeeeease.... Give up the hate already!!!🙄

The video used no words, no scriptures, nothing but music and scenes of dying, grief, pain, and loss. The "sister" sat alone, imagining a resurrection scenario. The reality was dark and grim. Only the imaginary resurrection scene was bright and happy.

They are like vultures, feeding off the rottenness and pains of reality, and using it to stuff themselves fat.

Stuff like this this makes them cold toward the reality of grief and loss. They show no comfort except to show you imaginary scenarios. But they believe these scenarios are possible realities, and JWs are supposed to focus on that.

We have friends who lost an infant in death, and they were beside themselves with grief. Nobody offered any comfort except to say things like, "Well, you can be thankful that the baby will grow up in the new system instead of this evil one!" and, "You are grieving too much, it seems like you need to rely on Jehovah more." and, "Put your focus on field service and attending the meetings. That is where you will find strength and encouragement." Total and utter crap for them.

    Doubtfully yours,

Fine - but there can be responsible discretion as to when and how such an emotionally charged scenario should be shown.

As I pointed out, there would be those who have no room 'midweek' to expose their hearts to feelings that are incredibly raw - imagine if you'd lost a child a couple of months earlier, was fighting to get back into normal daily life, trying to shelve feelings of pain that threaten to overwhelm because they have left a massive HOLE - perhaps you can't even go into their old bedroom, it's too painful. You are trying to keep a stable routine, pressures of work - you wouldn't need the casual outrolling of this video, and then have to battle the aftermath of your pain and loss - the trigger would be so powerful. You don't understand do you?

Lets take your thought above and follow it through....

wouldnt the same thing be accomplished if they focused the video on the resurrection?

The focus is not fully on that however. Time is spent on death.....on using that to build emotion and then ta da! The resurrection!

What people are having an empathetic reaction to is the detailed scripting of the dying that is portrayed in the video.

The fact that the Society feels they have to go to such a detailed and visceral level to present the Resurrection "hope" is what is being questioned.

True sensitivity could include things as simple as showing it at a separate time so grieving ones dont feel obligated to go or miss their meeting.

Or perhaps an announcement the week before?

"The video to be shown next week about the resurrection contains subject matter that might be sensitive to some."

    Now wouldnt that be thoughtful?

I remember this being played at the DA.. a sister in our cong had found out the day before that a friend of hers had died, she was in bits when she saw this video. She spoke out quite vehemently against it. She's a died-hard jdub.

We feel no hate, but pity for the misplaced emphasis on death, and the people affected by the production, which technically might be well done. With offerings like that, more might say, well, I am done.

We have watched our entire family suffer from long term abuse directly from this cult. Some of the abuse has directly affected some close family members. It has affected them emotionally, physically (some working into their 70's) and financially. I truly believe some would walk away in an instant if it were not for the desire to see loved ones again at the resurrection.

The WT knows that this emotional manipulation works. That is why they are doing it. They are loosing the battle to maintain the young ones and others are running for the Exit.

When the cult gives up the hate and manipulation, I'll give up the bitterness.
