LongHairGal - “Makes everybody wonder what more radical changes in the JW religion are coming soon down the road.”

Meetings pared down to just Sunday?

    Pantsuits for sisters?

    Clothing drives?

    VIDIOT:

Clothing drives would imply real charity! Wouldn’t that be amazing.

    Talk about man-made rules.

Even in countries such as Papua New Guinea, in which beards are completely acceptable, the JWs maintained this prohibition.

My dad compared the beard prohibition to the requirement for Israelites to have fringes on their robes.

To identify each other whilst abroad, but more importantly, to stand out.

Not fitting in was the point.

Different for the sake of different.

Lett's long-winded explanation was ridiculous. Making it sound like JEHOVAH revealed something "new" to them. The guy is clownish.

GB member/President Knorr did handle it better, he simply said "We wear normal business attire to present a dignified appearance as ministers in today's Society". "Over time customs and society change". We don't want to identify with any rebellious trend or group".

Brooklyn Bethel was near one of the largest concentrations of Orthodox Jews in the world. To this day they eat, dress, and groom themselves according to Levitical laws. Beards, long sideburns, fringes sewn inside suit coats, no mixed fabrics, etc were worn openly everywhere in NYC and were a frequent subject of conversation at Brooklyn Bethel.

Watchtower needs to hire a REAL public relations person.

    @ Ding: Re GB Control

    Mark Jones writes:

How much control does the GB have over members?

    It depends on the member.

For some, the control is absolute. For others (most in fact) the control is, at the very least, very high.

If a Watchtower magazine tells them to pray to Jesus - they will.

If a Watchtower magazine tells them not to pray to Jesus - they’ll stop.

If a Watchtower magazine tells them to let their child die - they will.

If a Watchtower magazine tells them to die for refusing to get involved in politics - they will.

If a Watchtower magazine tells them to get involved in politics by lobbying for a political decision to secure the leaders assets - they will.

If a Watchtower magazine tells them to bribe officials - they will.

If a Watchtower magazine tells them to shun their own children - they will.

If a Watchtower magazine tells them to reject organ transplants - they will.

If a Watchtower magazine tells them believe that Jesus is just an angel - they will.

And to top it all off, anyone who decides the religion isnt true and simply wishes to leave can… but they’ll lose their family. Dennis Cybulski doesn't mention that bit to you because he’s trying to sugarcoat it to make it sound like a real religion.

    You know, like a cult?

The WTS is now like the US army. i guess they were forced to lower the standards to met recruiting goals. Zoomers just don’t care.

How do you expect us to believe the end is so close if they don’t even believe it.

Riley - How do you expect us to believe the end is so close if they don’t even believe it?”

    Nice.

All the available anecdotal and circumstantial evidence indicates the GB are, indeed, True Believers…

…but I’ll admit, the current crop sure don’t display the same level of certainty and sincerity as their predecessors during the WTS’s Golden Age.

Part and parcel of believing it’s true whilst knowing it’s wrong at the same time, I guess.
