Is Global Warming a Sign of the Great Tribulation?

We are witnessing unprecedented environmental disasters—events unlike anything seen before in recorded history. Scientists confirm that 2024 was the hottest year ever documented, following 15 consecutive months of record-breaking temperatures. Wildfires, storms, droughts, and flooding have reached catastrophic levels, reshaping global economies and ecosystems.

Could these events be fulfilling the prophecy of the Great Tribulation, as foretold in scripture? Jesus warned in Matthew 24:21, “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.” This suggests a time of immense global distress, leading to the necessity of divine intervention.

    Consider these unprecedented signs:

    • Revelation 16:8-9“The sun was given power to scorch people with fire.” Rising global temperatures and extreme heat waves align with this warning.

    • Isaiah 24:5-6“The earth is defiled by its people… Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.” A striking parallel to the destruction caused by environmental collapse.

    • Luke 21:25-26“There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars; on the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.” Massive hurricanes, rising sea levels, and chaotic weather patterns fit this description.

Meanwhile, some believe a nuclear winter could be the defining event of the Great Tribulation. Zechariah 14:12 speaks of a plague causing people’s flesh to rot—imagery that some interpret as the effects of radiation exposure. However, prophecy suggests targeted divine judgment rather than total extinction.

Is global warming the true sign of the Tribulation, leading to the fall of Babylon’s financial system and the arrival of divine governance? Are we seeing the days foretold where God will bring ruin to those ruining the earth (Revelation 11:18)?

The time for reflection is now. Are these signs of prophecy fulfilling before our eyes?

The climate system is bad and getting worse, it is unpredictable. Global warming is a contentious issue but there is certainly change and probably due to man’s mucking around with nature.

How bad can it get and when will that be? God will intervene before the earth is destroyed and all of mankind. There were only a few left after Noah’s flood days.

Its horrific what man is doing, even our food is not safe.

" it could be'' a sign of the great tribulation.

    "Might be" "evidently"

Listener and Beth Sarim. Here is evidence to base our beliefs upon:

Past Environmental Problems vs. Today’s Climate Crisis

    Historical Environmental Challenges

    • Localized Pollution – Ancient civilizations like Rome and China struggled with air and water pollution, but these were regional issues, not global crises.
    • Deforestation – Large-scale deforestation occurred in Europe and the Americas, but ecosystems recovered over time due to natural regeneration.
    • Ice Ages & Natural Climate Shifts – The Earth has experienced glacial and interglacial periods, but these changes occurred over thousands of years, allowing species to adapt.
    • Volcanic Eruptions – Events like Mount Tambora (1815) caused temporary climate cooling, but the effects lasted only a few years.

Modern Climate Crisis: Unprecedented & Global

    • Record-Breaking Temperatures – 2024 was the hottest year ever recorded, following 15 consecutive months of extreme heat.
    • Wildfires at Unmatched Scale – Canada’s worst wildfire season burned 18.5 million hectares, six times the 10-year average.
    • Unpredictable Weather Patterns – Storms like Cyclone Freddy lasted record-breaking durations, while Storm Daniel caused Libya’s worst flooding disaster.
    • Mass Extinctions Accelerating – Species are disappearing at a rate 100 times faster than natural extinction cycles.

Unlike past environmental problems, today’s crisis is global, accelerating, and irreversible without intervention. This aligns with Matthew 24:21, which warns of a time of unmatched tribulation—a period unlike anything seen since the beginning of the world.

Are We Witnessing the Rapid Fulfillment of Prophecy?

The world is experiencing unprecedented turmoil—one prophecy after another is being fulfilled right before our eyes. The Great Tribulation has brought panic and fear, as people struggle to understand the chaos unfolding across the globe. Many sense that something greater is at play—that these events are not random, but part of a divine timeline leading to Jesus’ return.

We see disasters, political instability, economic collapse, and environmental destruction accelerating, just as foretold. Matthew 24:6-8 warns of wars, famines, and earthquakes increasing in frequency, while Luke 21:25-26 describes global distress and fear of the unknown. These fulfillments are undeniable, offering proof that God exists and that prophecy is coming to its final stages.

The time for reflection is now. If these signs continue to unfold one after the other, how close are we to the arrival of divine governance?

No it's not a sign of a great tribulation, its a man made event ,human activity is speeding up the heating of the planet.

The bible is not a book of prophecy, its man made a book of myths and fables.

unlike anything seen before in recorded history.

    What about unrecorded history?

Actually, you missed out America and Trump. Since your propaganda is US defaultist, you missed a trick.

As many so called 'experts and scientists' say it's all doom and gloom, an equal number say, 'oh no it's not'.

It depends who gets to benefit financially as to whom you agree with. We can't have a climate tax levied against us unless the powers that be pay the 'scientists' to make it appear thus.

Anyway, if you have faith in God, why don't you just leave it to Him to 'make all things new'?

If you're selling religion, which one are you wanting us to give money to?

If people - especially JW's - applied exegesis when reading the Bible instead of eisegesis, they'd stop "going beyond what is written."

Matthew 24:21 - "....for then [in 66-70 C.E.] there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again."

Which part of, "no, nor will occur again" is too complex for the brain to assimilate?

No reoccurrence, and definitely no "greater fulfillment" of what Jesus said would occur. 😄

    * Exegesis is an objective method that uses the original context of a text to determine its meaning.

Eisegesis is a subjective method that uses the reader's own ideas to interpret the text.
