Very handsome father and son. Men always look so nice in uniform. When I was a kid I went to a dancing school that was held at the Christophero Columbo Hall for the Knights of Columbus.

This sort of thing (the costume thing) is beyond my experience. Of course, there was my wt costume, but it fitted in the general cheap suit category. I just wonder if wearing the K of C costume makes you feel different than wearing, say jeans and a shirt.

Shamus,
For a full explanation of who and what the Knights of Columbus are...see the web site. However, in short we are a Catholic Men's organization. We were founded in 1882 in a basement of the St Mary's Catholic Church in New Haven Conneticut by Father Michael J. McGivney. He was pastor to a group of mostly working class families. Most were immigrants and were persecuted and harrassed. Further, there were more than one bread winner who would die and leave his family destitute. His goal was to form a group of Catholic men to mutually encourage one another in their faith...and to provide for the widows and orphans of his parishoners that would die.
One of his goals was to be able to give $1000.00 to the family of a member of the Knights that died...no small sum in the 1880's. He quickly acheived that goal.
So, we are a mutual beneficial society. We have one of the highest rated life insurance companies in the world...receiving the highest rating by all three groups in the US that rate insurance companies...only six Insurance companies do that....we have over 40 billion in insurance in force. The insurance program is voluntary...the Church doesn't control our money...we are a lay apostolate.
We have Four foci, Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. Each council works on programs for the benefit of five areas, family, church, community, youth, and the council itself. We do tons of fund raisers for different charities...and volunteer lots of hours as well...not just to the Church...but to the whole community.
Last year alone we gave away over 125 million dollars, and donated over 60 billion volunteer hours...valued at over 4 billion dollars. All this from a group of 1.6 million men; most of them 50 and above in age.
This Saturday I'll be out raising money for the Special Olympics (you don't have to be Catholic to benefit from our fund raisers). We fund food banks (though I don't think we have our own) We paid for the recent face lift that St Peter's Basilica in Rome received, etc etc etc.
We're heavily into the Pro-Life movement...and the KofC were the sponsors that pushed for the phrase "under God" to be included in the pledge of allegiance.
That's our short history.
The costume I wear is worn only by 4th degree Knights (known as the Patriotic Degree) we wear it for special ceremonies only...like serving as honor guard for a bishop or the Pope...or when doing a public function like a Columbus Day March.

Very cool, Yerusalim! You've done more in one day than I did as a dub in my whole life! (That is, helping people)!
Thanks for the info! And get back posting here, you workaholic!
