life on mars

As everyone knows there is much speculation that life began on Mars as some simple singlecell organism that was thrown to earth in meteorite impact castoff. There is some tenuous evidence that suggests the posssibility is not that far fetched. Now we are facing the possible answer to this question, "Is there life on other planets"? 2 U.S. Mars landers are expected to land in 2004 with the hopes of gathering the proof that life did once exist in the now evaporated surface water on Mars. My question is, " What will happpen to Fundementalist faith if they find proof of life and another piece of the scientific puzzel falls into place? Will the JW leadership simply dismiss it as fraud? Will they diminish it's relevence by saying, ' So Jehovah had some unknown purpose in creating life on other planets, BUT, it is only on earth that the issues of Sovereignty where raised!'

The indomidable power of belief will likely win out for the majority, but for some at least it may be the camel that breaks the straws back.

They will find out that this is just another planet in a long line of planets that "Jehovah" experimented with. He started with Pluto, screwed that up, destroyed all life, now it's Earth. What a mess. Wish he'd get it right.

A million years from now, space traveling people from the planet Jupiter, will find traces of life on an old planet called Earth. It will be a miracle!!

I think that there is a VERY real possibility that life on Mars existed at one time or another. The first hurdle is to get NASA to admit it. After that, you can worry about how it will affect religions here on earth.

In the brief 20 years that I was involved with the JWs, I do not seem to recall their dealing with the topic of 'sister' planets with inhabitants on them.

Of course, since most religions are based upon false assumptions and myths from old anyway, I don't pay too much attention to their 'new light' revelations anymore.

There is a terrestrial organism that looks remarkably similar to those found in the meteorite and , they are studying those so NASA knows what to look for in Mars. They are as eager as anyone else to determine this and publish the results. I am following this VERY closely.

It might well put a damper on their beliefs just a bit - if it were proven as fact that life was there or is there. Until then, all fundie religions including the jws will find whatever quotes they can to cast doubt on such a discovery/idea.

I don't believe life on other planets will shake most Christian's beliefs very much. First of all, if it's not intelligent life then it won't even be an issue. If it is intelligent life, then some will choose to believe that those life forms are not chosen by God and/or they do not have souls. With such a simple conclusion, intelligent life elsewhere in the universe poses no threat to their faith.

I was always amused at the fact that the WTS thought they knew it all.

For example, they have talked about there is no way there is life on other planets. Their reasoning? Simply because it is not talked about in the bible. If it is not talked about, it must not exist.

For myself, belief in life on other planets does not change my viewpoints at all about what God intended for us here on earth. Just because we exist does not automatically mean that life does not exist elsewhere. Maybe that is part of heaven? Who knows?

I am not sure if there is intelligent life on other planets, with civilizations similar to here on earth. But I have no doubt that of the billions of planets, surely there are a few, likely millions, that could sustain life in our form. The exact air we need, etc.

I do believe without a doubt, that there are millions of planets out there with some sort of life on them. Perhaps small, or even large animals. Plant life seems realistic too.

I can't wait to see the new finds myself . Scientists believe that the earth and mars have been exchanging meteorites for millions of years .
