    Jookbeard:

Apostates have access to Russell and Rutherford too, for all the good it does.

The religion is nearly self supporting. Noone researches anymore. Doing it too well gets you in trouble. Nobody cares about doctrine. People know the overlapping generation is nonsense and don't care. The belief system is rotted away but the mental construction stays up. It is suspended by a central pole and that is this: The unquestioning acceptance of the authority of the GB in determining what is true.

I follow the reasoning of those who say that reference to1914 as a significant end-times date will drop off more and more as time passes. Yet, the other date they reference a lot - more so than 1914 - is 1919, the date they arrogantly assert Christ inspected all religions claiming to be Christian and accepted theirs alone. If the 1914 doctrine goes, then so does the 1919 doctrine and any claimed spiritual legitimacy with it.

The reason why is because 1914 is a false (weak) doctrine but they want to instill fear into people’s minds to sustain the activity of its members.

Fear is the usable catytist to keep things going , its what the WTS has been using for over 100 years.

Change in Borg land is always so slow....they paved the way when said "no more types and antitypes" that nulight is gonna make them more mainstream. JW are gonna be so different from now as it is now from Russell & Ruthford years...but here's the catch...come here to JW land in 40 years in the future.

@Steve2 - True, but they can get rid of 1919 just like they changed the definition of the words "generation", just like they stole the title of "faithful and discreet slave" to basically mean the governing body now. They can change anything they want. They've changed the meaning of dates before. We apostates can remind them of things, but they won't listen. 1975 anyone?

In fact, I think that laying claim to be the FDS is key in getting rid of 1919. Don't look at this or that date, just look at us, we're the one dispensing food at the proper time, just listen to what we say. They don't need 1919 anymore, they just need to say that they're the FDS, establish that for long enough, and they don't need a date anymore. That's my opinion, anyway.

    Cool thread, by the way.

The 1914 single generation teaching is still there, in all its outdated glory, in the online version of the reasoning book on the jw.org website. The same article also explains why the teaching is not wrong and can't be changed. 🤣

Its not surprising that 1914 isn’t mentioned much, the Gb boys don’t want people critically investigating it.

Its also connected to the overlapping generation, which is another false doctrine,

I detected not one word about the overlapping generation during the convention (and it has been fully captured on video) and very little about 1914.
