Essentially yes. And on that basis, it’s not hard to see why the Russian government would ban a sect that is not only ostensibly American, but also says USSR/Russia is a biblical ‘beast’ that God will soon destroy (in a totally non-extremist way).
The King of the North in ancient biblical times is relating to the King of Israel and the King of the South was referring to the King of Judah.

No. As used in Daniel, the ‘king of the north’ refers to the (Syrian) Seleucid kings and the ‘king of the south’ refers to the (Egyptian) Ptolemaic kings. The story in Daniel chapter 11 traces those kings from around 333BC to 164BC.

The writer of Daniel made little attempt at prophecy, when he did, he failed, as when predicting the death of Antiochus 1V, .... he got it wrong, and did not realise it had actually happened as he wrote.
It is a Politco/Religious Tract for its day, which was at the very end of Antiochus' reign, circa 164 C.E., it was never intended to "point forward" to our, or any future time.
The Apocalyptic style predictions were typical of the genre, but in this case may well have been included more to mask its real intention, that of castigating the rulers of the day.
I always suspected (even back when I was still in) that the Org leadership experienced mild panic when the old Soviet Union unexpectedly collapsed.

The WTS's expressed doctrine of the king of the North against the king of the South is one many compelling propagations of ignorance this organization produced.
The WTS wants to keep people on edge or fear that Armageddon is just around the corner and it does so intentionally to instill power and control over the flock of followers.
