One man is in jail after an attack on a Waco place of worship.

Police were called out to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses around 4:30 on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, Brian Oatman had refused to leave the Kingdom Hall after being asked. Instead, police say Oatman went out into the parking lot, broke into a car, grabbed a tire iron, and began smashing cars.

Two elders of the Kingdom Hall went outside to try and stop Oatman, but he quickly turned his attack on to them. One elder was cut and the other was knocked to the ground.

Police arrived and were able to take Oatman into custody, charging him with multiple counts of criminal mischief, aggravated assault and burglary.

Very sad - no details on what possibly prompted it but whatever the reason it's not the way to deal with things, it just puts you in the wrong.

Violence is violence. Every angry person in the world can justify their anger and violence.

    But it is inexcusable.

He would have terrified people and no doubt they would have feared for their wellbeing and even lives. Goodness knows there has been enough publicity of late on lone inidividuals - usually men - wreaking havoc. Thank God he did not have a gun or weapons. What a pitiful man. He will have long, long hours to stew and justify his sad-sack story.

Anyone who resorts to violence loses me before first base.

Disturbing, I have empathy for all who were there witnessing this out of control asshole's violent and focal tirade, particularly the children in attendance at the Hall.

Very disturbing, and unfortunate that people have to resort to violence against the JW's. Terrible.

Maybe he lost his family to the JW Cult. Very sad situation, whatever the reason. The dubbies will use this as "see how we are persecuted" and "see how evil the world has become" preludes to their cry of "Armageddon---SOON!!!"

We don't know the whole story - this could just be random but just in case it isn't ...

It's this sort of incident that highlights how important it can be to moderate our tone so that we don't inadvertently feed into someone else's anger and obsessive feelings that may cause them to act out some of their desire for revenge / retaliation in an inappropriate way.

Apart from it being the kind of self-confirming publicity that the WTS thrives on to claim persecution, self destructive behaviour also helps their promotion of the idea that anyone who leaves the WTS goes mental.

Of course self-destructive behaviour is always going to hurt the person doing it but could end up hurting someone entirely innocent. That's why I dislike the theme that some promote of JW's being some enemy rather than people we are trying to help.
