Jeffrey Jackson: Too much excitement got in the way for the ''false dates''

The Governing Body members are nothing but a bunch of weasels. Here is a talk by Jeffrey Jackson on how the Governing Body ''The Slave Class'' has remained spiritually awake over 100 years and alerted its members.

He looks back on the ''Faithful and Discreet Slaves'' false dates over the 100 years: '' But at times, we look back over 100 years, and there were times they got excited about a certain year or time, and the end didn't come at that time.''

He makes the comparison between the ''Slave Class ( who disappointed others when the end didn't come ) to a barking watchdog ( who in his enthusiasm barks at nothing in the middle of the night and wakes up the owner). Mr. Jackson throws in a little comedy that is met with laughter. "DO YOU SHOOT THE DOG?"

There are no false dates. False expectations, but not false dates.

'DO YOU SHOOT THE DOG', for barking when there is nothing there?

Wrong question. The right question is 'Do you leave a religion when it lies to you?'

How many times has Watchtower said words to the effect that you should only support the 'TRUTH,' and 'LEAVE FALSE RELIGION'?

You don't shoot the dog, but you do stone false prophets.

Nice of them to admit they're as smart as a dog that barks at nothing!

" There are no false dates. False expectations, but not false dates."

    1975 was a false date.

No, you don't shoot the dog but have learnt that you can no longer rely on it to be a guard dog. Instead, you'll have to attend to it during the night when it barks so as not to disturb the rest of the family and neighbours.

Wait... did Jackson just refer to the GB as an unreliable dog?

Mr. Jackson didn't name 1975, but he walked around it: '' But at times, we look back over 100 years, and there were times they got excited about a certain year or time, and the end didn't come at that time.''

Maybe you didn't live through the 1975 debacle like I did, where the preaching work was intensified and many brothers sold their homes and businesses.

One thing to consider about the emphasis on 1975: it was said to be the year when 6,000 years of man's existence would be reached. What significance did the WTS ever give to that claim, that made it matter to the rank and file? Even now, what does it matter that 1975 marked 6,000 years since Adam's creation? Do they ever make any reference to it as meaning anything?

The only significance that was ever implied was that it could mark the year when Jehovah would finally bring about the end of the current system of things and usher in the new world under divine governance. Otherwise, what did it matter that Adam was created 6,000 years prior to 1975? How would that affect anyone's decision to join the JWs? Why would they care? Outside of using it to push the concept that Armageddon was almost here, why would a person care about Adam's 6,000th birthday?

Great Post TonusOH! Here is the article where they make that implication:

ADAM CREATED AT CLOSE OF “SIXTH DAY”

    30. What may occur before 1975, but what attitude should we take?

30 Are we to assume from this study that the battle of Armageddon will be all over by the autumn of 1975, and the long-looked-for thousand-year reign of Christ will begin by then? Possibly, but we wait to see how closely the seventh thousand-year period of man’s existence coincides with the sabbath like thousand-year reign of Christ. If these two periods run parallel with each other as to the calendar year, it will not be by mere chance or accident but will be according to Jehovah’s loving and timely purposes. Our chronology, however, which is reasonably accurate (but admittedly not infallible), at the best only points to the autumn of 1975 as the end of 6,000 years of man’s existence on earth. It does not necessarily mean that 1975 marks the end of the first 6,000 years of Jehovah’s seventh creative “day.” Why not? Because after his creation Adam lived some time during the “sixth day,” which unknown amount of time would need to be subtracted from Adam’s 930 years, to determine when the sixth seven-thousand-year period or “day” ended, and how long Adam lived into the “seventh day.” And yet the end of that sixth creative “day” could end within the same Gregorian calendar year of Adam’s creation. It may involve only a difference of weeks or months, not years.
