Did you ever buy into 1975?

    Hell, yes!

I was scared sh*tless, because IF it came, I was doubtful that I was going to "make it". I'd just discovered that that thing I had always just used to pee had a far greater purpose!

The date came upon us , during book "study" 6 years ahead. We had just retired from a decade of special pioneering, after the "Superior Authority" re-reversal. so, we decided it would be cheaper to build a house instead of renting (as wt paupers) , and live in comfort until "the end", in a choice location, "need greater" too,

It was just a date, further into the future than we expected, what with nuclear war, ("god's) intervention) always being only 15 minutes away.

just a date , like 1914, no firm expectation, no dreams of horror and paradisaic bliss. Strangely, some well to do worldling, that valued our genuine sincerity, bought also into it, kind of, fearing the coming judgement?

Never regretted being conned be wt into the real estate, real world mode.

The current wt predictions imply an end of the overlap by 2075. Very good deals possible with that scenario too. now that we know.

Never forgave wt for having made us tools & fools by foisting these ideas (Superior Authorities J1 & J2) , 1975 on others, Being false prophets is their problem, making us participants is criminal fraud. never again.

having been spooked by the blatant error of the then "Superior Authority" doctrine, we were convinced of the inferiority of wt predictions, but went along halfheartedly, not expecting much, hedging our bets. coming out winners.

no. i was a pioneer and a servant in the mid late 60's. i was completely out by 1974..although futile efforts were made to get me back in. i knew it was pure nonsense. just like god / armageddon / new world.--all that witness stuff. just imagination.

i was right then--and still am.

I wondered if it might be true but never bought into it fully.

Even when 1976 arrived, I wondered if they might just be off by a year or so.

By 1977 I had rejected the WTS altogether for a number of reasons.

When Randy Watters came out with his materials in the 1980s and when Ray Franz published Crisis of Conscience, it only confirmed for me that the 1975 fiasco was just the tip of a huge iceberg.

Yes....I was baptized 74. Very much in love with a girl who wouldn´t marry me unless I was a baptized brother. Knowing what the soc. said about 75 I thought that in a few years it would be obvious who was right and who was wrong. Unfortunately `?/ fortunately? We still loved each other and a lot of children were borne. I became an elder. And I know that it was all wrong. But how do you keep your family intact? You smile and accept knew privileges, and all admires your large family. Then you start to investigate seriously your doubt´s. This in spite of the recommendations from your Co and the GB, you start to attend University classes and finally understand that you have been cheated for almost 40 years. Even before that I was fading in the early of the 90. But know my wife is still in, alone, no one of our children believes in “the truth”…. My wife must feel very, very lonely. But we keep together, me not attending any meeting since 2000….

For those of you that can remember.... did you really believe that Armageddon was going to come in 1975?

What I find interesting about my born-again weirdo JW father, is that he never bought that 1975 nonsense. Looking back, I think that it had more to do with the fact that he became a JW in 1974, so he wanted/needed more time to do his born-again testimonial preaching act. It was too soon for him. We, his children (I was 9 back then) had no choice but to believe whatever crap he came up with, so aside from being too little to discern on my own, I just followed what my dad said.

I remember him having heated arguments with the elders in the congregation over it, and making fun of this one elder who decided to become a pioneer in October 1975 and train himself to eat leaves (don't ask me, I was only 9). That elder had 13 children...

...Gee, sometimes I wonder how I manage to maintain some sanity!

Anyway, I was only 9, was more interested in getting away with playing whatever I found cool at that age, so couldn't care less about the insane behavior or believes of the adults I was surrounded with at the time.

I was only 3 in 1975, so I've no memory. My earliest memories are around 1977.

From what I understand, I had a relative say to a irate householder, "Just wait until 1975." Of course, it seems a common phenomenon for people to downplay what they expected and how much they expected it. This seems to have happened with Harold Camping's group.

I DID buy into the who line that Watchtower never claimed anything about 1975, just some people read too much into it. It was only when I started waking up around 2011 and reading what the Watchtower said (and how they said it) that I realized it was deceptive revisionism.

I believed it like I believed everything else they said. Since I knew that God would kill me at armageddon, it was terrifying. I remember the part of the talk where the speaker said that it had been 6,000 years that Adam had been created. How long did it take for him to name the animals? Not long. How long after that was Eve created? Not long. So brothers and Sisters, it won't be long for the new order to be here. You could have heard someone cough on the other side of the stadium because the audience was silent. (this isn't word for word but you get the idea)

The WT has on several occasions in the past years, mocked those that sincerely followed what the Society said. Hahaha laughing even. Cruel evil money loving jerks. I mean those that are in the shadows behind the GB. The GB are over inflated ego loving jerks.
