I've often suspected that militant intolerance for other religious beliefs is fuelled by secret (even subconscious) doubts.
After all, all if one were truly confident that one's own beliefs were the "correct" ones, one wouldn't feel so f**king threatened by the existence of others.
I could be wrong.
