"You must not bring reproach on Jehovah's organization."
My then-elder Dad said this to me once when I was a young guy asking him about this very subject.
I replied, "wouldn't it bring even more 'reproach' if they found out later that we didn't tell them?"
The look on his face was priceless; clearly, he'd never even considered that possibility. To his credit, though, he didn't punish me for saying it, and - for all intents and purposes - conceded the point...
...he was, at his core, a decent and sensible man.
His main issue was, I think, too focused on the short-term (a severe handicap of loyal JWs, IMO), and therefore not wanting to give any ammunition to "The Enemy".
