I think I am correct in this but I think in the list of JW beliefs The rejection of the cross in favour of the stake is one in the first five beliefs . It's strange to list such an insignificant and unproven belief in the first few.

Next they will be saying the nicean creed just to cover themselves.

    Is this for real?

Are they really hedging toward dropping the stake teaching??

    Wow!

I wonder if there are any half worldly couples who agreed to name their kid Stavros in honor of all the arguments they have about Jesus.

Or in honour of the creator of the Daleks!

They are just trying to appease non JW's when they visit their site.

Have a look nothing has changed.

I'm sure I saw a show or documentary years ago that showed if Jesus were hung on an actual stake (with his hands over his head) he'd be dead in a half hour.

For him to have lingered a while it made more sense he was crucified on a cross (with outstretched arms).

I always felt the JWs differ just for the sake of being different in this and other things they teach.

Half banana - "Since when have the JW organisation started to use logical reasoning?"

Who says this was the result of "logical reasoning"?

Was budging on the length of the Creative Days the result of "logical reasoning"?

    Spoiler alert: NO.

It was the result of so much scientific evidence to the contrary that to deny it at this point would make them look like idiots.

This is the key to most of the practices introduced by Rutherford and Knorr. To be completely different from nominal Christianity, even if there is no basis for it.

As was mentioned, this awesome post was made 12 years ago.

JWfacts has good pages on the cross, especially the reference to the "ellipses" trick when "quoting" from the Imperial Bible Dictionary, which was used in the Reasoning book. https://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/misquotes-deception-lies.php#Cross

Despite the Imperial Bible Dictionary being available for all to view in Google books, WT again pulled off the ellipses trick in the 2011 Watchtower.

Maybe they are going to ease off of this one.

"However, the Bible does not describe the instrument of Jesus’ death, so no one can know its shape with absolute certainty. Still, the Bible provides evidence that Jesus died, not on a cross, but on an upright stake."

So they still say that the evidence is there that he died on an upright stake.

They still use that medieval picture by Lipsius despite it being one of many crosses in his book

This is just being polite to visitors to the website

I think they previously conceded it might be a cross shape but said ultimately it doesn't matter.
