Building an Ark

"Make for yourself an ark from resinous wood. You will make compartments in the ark and cover it with tar inside and outside." - Genesis 6:14

Because, you know, that's how you build a giant boat - just wood and tar. No nails. No iron or steel bands to hold things together. No beveling to interlock the keel with the super structure. Just wood and tar . . .

"When another notoriously large ship, the Great Michael, was built in 1511 (though only 1/4 the size of the ark), it was said to have taken all the woods of Fife (a county in Scotland famous for its shipbuilding), as well as having to import wood from France, other areas in the Baltic sea, and cargo ships scrapped for use in its construction. A ship of Noah's size would have required tens of thousands of high quality timber to be cut and milled for its construction, something that is not exactly feasible considering the Ark was supposedly built in what is modern day Iraq."

    Noah's Ark was 437ft x 73ft x 44ft.

The schooner Wyoming was launched in 1909 and was 330ft x 50ft and the largest wooded ship to date. It leaked from day 1 as Wiki says:-

"Because of its extreme length and wood construction, Wyoming tended to flex in heavy seas, which would cause the long planks to twist and buckle, thereby allowing sea water to intrude into the hold (see hogging and sagging). Wyoming had to use pumps to keep its hold relatively free of water. In March 1924, it foundered in heavy seas and sank with the loss of all hands."

Sad to say I also used to believe such twaddle as recorded in the Bible.

Ya'll are just under estimating the wisdom a 500yr old man has, when it comes to doing stuff that has never been done before.

Yeah, maybe that ship foundered in the 1920's, but that was because they didn't coat it with pitch inside & out like the Bible says.

See what happens when you don't do things Jehovah's way? Shipwreck!

LOL. I would bet some JW would take that exact same point above and use it in a talk....

Depending on which bible you read the ark could have been as long as 450-500 feet. I read the key to make it all stick together just so, so it would not sink was a product called bullshit, lots and lots of bullshit.

He did great, it was the first boat he'd ever built and also the first boat anyone had ever seen. It also happened to break all world records since.

Totally believable in every way, before you even get to rounding up all the animals.

Bloody cynics, using your facts, logic and science to undermine the inspired word of god himself. Who do you think you are?
