All depends on the individual. The official line is to definitely shun the d/f’d and they have said on occasion that should include ex dubs who are strong non believers.

However, there is no penalty for associating if one is not d/f’ ,so it is a matter of conscience.

I agree with Gorb, it can be difficult to figure out what they are doing. Sometimes it seems as if they're not sure themselves, but it might be that they are quietly allowing a few trial balloons to see if they can keep more people in by easing the rules on shunning. As others already pointed out, they are getting some pushback from governments on issues like shunning and rejection of blood transfusions. It might be better for them, in the long run, to make changes and conform with that pushback in order to try and keep membership numbers from declining (or declining faster).

The contact information is for emergencies. The local elders will be able to check on the welfare of anyone who had to evacuate. Theoretically just like any other aid organization.

They finally realize all our extended families are not JW, and may well be in a better position to takec us in.

At Katrina they did not know where a lot of people disappeared to. I also suspect some of that diaspora used it to leave da troof
