Humanity'd have been to the nearest stars and back by now, IMO.
I sometimes wonder what the world would be like if "Religion" had never reared it`s head.?
Also, arguably, none of us would exist, on account of the course of human history having gone in a way different direction.
"Cause and effect", and all that.
Any enlightenment in the world has been, not due to religion but in spite of it. Every step of the way, organized religion has opposed secular advances, including in medicine and science. Of course, once advances have been made, organized religion has jumped on the band wagon.
Religion existed before human civilization. Homo sapiens is not the only species that is capable of fear and superstition, which are the mother and father of religion.
