Yesterday, I experienced a tragedy in my family. My cat of 7.5 years Simone' died. Two days ago I left for work and she seemed fine. When I came home, she looked like she was in pain and acted strange. My wife watched her all day and Simone' kept getting worse. Finally around three o'clock yesterday afternoon, Simone' died. Simone' will forever be missed.

Jayhawk, I'm very sorry to read about the loss of your pet.

Honestly, I know only too well how that feels.

A couple of years ago, my very good little buddy "Sammy" the 15 year old cockatiel, died....accidentally.

My talking male bird, found a plastic bag, crawled into it (playing probably) and suffocated.

When I found him: I bawled my head off. He had been part of the family for nearly 15 years, and to lose him over a stupid plastic bag. The entire household was a wreck. Everyone was crying for days, and we were depressed for months.

Fortunately, a beautiful yellow female cockatiel came into our household: Sunshine. She is indeed that, and she's now over 4 years old, and lives with my former landlord/best friend. She made all the difference in the world, and had a personality definitely different than that of Sammy. She layed her first egg (big celebration) and she is the friendliest cockatiel in the city, I think.

Not sure if you are up to it, but would you consider getting another cat?

When we lost Sammy, that night, we picked up Sunshine.

I think it helped in our grieving process.

I am so sorry to hear about Simone. Let us know if you do decide to get another pet.

Trust me, the pain is real. It is, for some of us, like losing a person/friend.

    Kindest regards,
    Rayzorblade

**By the way, I do have 2 birds. One parakeet(budgie) and cockatiel. They're great companions.

Sorry, about your cat - when you've had them that long they do become part of the family, and you need to grieve for them

Sorry about your bird Rayzor, we lost our old cat a couple of years ago in an accident, I still feel completely awful over it.

I'm so sorry about your cat - they really do become part of the family. I've had pets die and the pain you go through is awful.

My condolences. As Rayzorblade suggested, perhaps another cat/pet will help soften the blow.
