    ANG,

Quite possibly, but it does indeed seem evident to me that the reference is the apostle John, not Jesus. It was a mighty strange place to stick a period too.

    Hi again Yeru

I still find it a fascinating story. Whether thats all it is we may never know.

The interview with the director of the BBC prog was interesting, especially where he gave his reasons for making the documentary in the first place.

Having spent all of my life with religions allied to christian teachings I found it amazing that this account was something I had never heard of especially as allegedly a fair proportion of the upper echeleons of the Cof E dont actually believe the ressurection account to be true but merely an allegory of hope for the future.

    Where standest thou?

Trajan lived from 53 A.D. -117, so "he" does refer to John. However, Irenaeus did not believe that Jesus died at the age of 30 or even 33 but rather somewhere closer to 50 years old. This certainly does not agree with the 30 A.D. or 33 A.D. date of his death by JWs and others; Jesus, according to Irenaeus, preached more than just 3 years. I don't know if any modern scholars, however, agree with his assessment.

    Anglise,

I believe in the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ.

    Kennyson,

I noticed the same thing as I was researching this. If one accepts the bible dates Jesus was most probably born around 6 BC, with the 29 AD date being the one that put the first day of Passover on a Friday. That actually makes Jesus about 35. The strongest scriptural comment supporting Irenaus is when the Jews say to Jesus "How can this be as you are not yet fifty" That's pretty shakey ground to base a believe that Jesus was either born much earlier or killed much later. At ag 35 Jesus would have been 32 when he started his public ministry, I've read nothing that would indicate to me that Jesus wouldn't have been respected as a teacher at that age.
