Greven: You made some good points.

Hamas: You can be weird. (Like I should talk.)

Personally I don't believe in the prophecies. My opinion is that they were either written after the fact or so vague as to be easily fulfilled.

If you consider the fulfillment of prophecy that the WT society directs you to, it would be hard to put faith in the bible's truthfulness. Everything was either invisible or a made up application to what ever they were doing at the time and the things they said were to happen never did.

    Messianic Prophecy: What Is It?
Messianic prophecy is the collection of over 300 predictions in the Old Testament about the future Messiah of the Jewish people. These predictions were written by multiple authors, in numerous books, over approximately 1,000 years. Messianic Prophecy is so dramatic today, because with the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the reliability of the Septuagint version of the Old Testament (both of which have been proven to exist prior to the time Jesus walked on the earth) you can be assured that these prophecies were not “conspired” after-the-fact.

Messianic Prophecy: Fulfillment by Jesus Christ
Messianic prophecy was fulfilled by the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Although many Jews did not accept Jesus as their Messiah, many did, and they became the Jewish sect later known as the Christians. Christianity, based in dramatic part on the fulfillment of historical prophecy, spread rapidly throughout the Roman Empire of the 1st Century. Examine the prophecies yourself, and calculate the probability of one man fulfilling just a handful of the most specific ones, and you’ll be amazed.

“Jesus said to them, ‘This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.’” Luke 24:44 (NIV)

The Old Testament verses are the prophecy; the New Testament verses proclaim the fulfillment. Check them all out for yourself!

    Yiz,

You counted the days between the decree to rebuild Jerusalem and the day Jesus rode an ass?

Sorry man, but no... prophecy is another way to spell Ponzi.

I am guessing you really want to know if we will be able to know if the prophesies concerning the world of today are accurate ? I think yizuman did a good job of showing the old testament prophesy . Jesus also prophesied about the fall of jerusalem and the destruction of the temple at a time when the jews were waiting to have God intervene . Alot of the prophesy is so symbolic that it can be interpreted to mean just about anything . I have heard plenty of attempts to make sense out of revelations and apply it to todays world, most of which sounds totally ridiculous . There is plenty of talk from many religions of an anti christ with super natural powers that attempts to take over the world .

Its not like the Gospel writers would invent the narratives that fulfilled the so-called prophecies in the OT.

They wouldn’t do that. There is no evidence of anyone trying to present fake accounts of Jesus’ life.

Oh…..wait……I forgot about all the NT apocrypha. Never mind.

Perhaps you should heed your own counsel. Check those 'prophecies' out yourself and don't rely on your preacher man. You will find that those 'prophecies' aren't quite as convincing as you thought.

    Mary,

I've read before that the 'ruining the earth' bit of Revelation had to do with morals or something more figurative and not a physical ruining of the earth. It's been a while for me, though, so I could be mis-remembering.

    Lemme ask you this guys....

How can someone prophecy about the Messiah thousands of years before Christ was born and He fulfilled each one of them as it was said about Him? I'm talking about the uncanny fulfillment letter by letter, word for word from different people on up to His birth.

Can you prophecy about anyone a thousand years from now and be right?

I think that all OT prophecy was fulfilled by Jesus, because that what he said somewhere (vague, eh?). Interesting thing I found out though, apparently the 666 number, when you put it through ancient Hebrew cryptology it becomes Nero or something of the sort and that half of revelation was exclusively made for the early Christians to help them through their persecution. I think thats what the point of prophecy is, to bring comfort (or fiery destruction, you pick).

Because the stories were written in order to prove that Jesus was the Messiah. To prove this, he would have needed to have fulfilled prophecies. They didn't really come true. Somebody just pretended they did, in order to support their beliefs.
