Visited the convention for a day. Did speak a lot of JW.

There is a lot change going on, did indept conversations.

    My conclusion:

    - jw.org is transforming with evangelical and gospel influence.

    Some told me:

    - it doesn't matter if you don't believe in doctrine

    - it doesn't matter how you preach

    - it's all concience now

    - doesn't matter to attend all meetings

    - doesn't matter if you chose higher education

    - doesn't matter if you have a high profile job

    - do what you want and what you can

    - worldly persons (non jw) with a good life will be saved too

"We are not the old JW, we are changing

    - No end of the world in sight

note: this is a Western Europe country

At home I conclude there is a lot going on, and I could not find a reason at the convention to object.

My elderly mother attended the Regional Conv a couple of weeks ago.

She described it as the most "GENERIC" program she has ever seen/heard. "All about Jesus. . . ". Just be kind, be generous, do not be greedy. . . . "Nothing to cause any controversy."

She's well into her 80s and has been waiting for The End all of her life. Now she realizes she isn't going to see it in her lifetime. She has resolved that she is actually going to die, just as did her husband, her sisters & brothers, her mother, her grandfather (who made 1st contact with the Studies in the Scriptures).

It appears to me that the GB is just trying to keep some life in the dying bOrganization and prevent further lawsuits and attacks from the "Caesars" of the World, as these problems are huge money drains on them.

    GORB:

    Very interesting.

In the few conversations I had as a ‘Fader’ with Witness ‘friends’ still in the religion - it was obvious to me that they didn’t really know what they believed!

They just knew the name ‘Jehovah’, ‘Armageddon’ and that the ‘new system was coming’.. They didn’t really care what was being taught.. So, I definitely believe that some told you now that ‘it doesn’t matter if you believe the doctrine’.. I believe that many JWs felt this way a long time.. NOW, they are confident enough to verbalize this because of all these changes!

This must be a hard pill to swallow for all the older Witnesses left in this religion who sacrificed so much. And for what?

    "And for what?".

After you sacrificed so much for this religion ,, with so little to show for it.

You give up so much. And,. get so little in return.

    I’ve said this for years…

… the more they double-down on all the old hard-line stances, the more they alienate the next generation and any potential new blood, and the more they place their charity status and tax-exemption at risk…

    but…

the more they attempt authentic mainstreaming, the more they neuter all the things they held up for decades as hard proof they alone had “The Truth”.

Either way, the incentive to stay can’t help but be further eroded.

    A follow-up (assuming they’ve chosen the latter)…

…if I had to guess, I’d say the constant refrain of “obey, obey, obey” is to keep old-timers and loyalists from bailing in disillusionment.

    VIDIOT:

    Yes, you have a point.

If, hypothetically, the old timer Witnesses bailed tomorrow the JW religion would have an emergency it would not recover from. Just my opinion.

Everybody knows the Boomers are dying off. But, a gradual loss is one thing because the religion can prepare for it.. A sudden loss of a demographic is another thing entirely.
