Thanks jst2laws, that is a fascinating account. My old pioneer partner was at Bethel in 1971 and he mentioned something about this just once and it was in passing. He also mentioned the homosexual purge, which at the time (we pioneered together in the early 80's) was shocking to me. But he said it was common knowledge at Bethel that homosexuality was an ongoing issue.
It just bears repeating, the Society doesn't change because it wants to, it makes changes when it is forced to.

"Baffled" is about the only word that describes my feelings after reading your essay.
To imagine I was baptized in 1969 and just tumbled into the "Truth" lock, stock, and barrel!
In those days "we" heard that things were going on at "Bethel"; but were insured that Jehovah was "purifying" his "kingdom".
And now 34 years later I finally hear what really went on there. I thank you for this "New Light".
