((((SHERA)))) I commend you on your decision to stay with your autistic son.

What a loving sacrifice. I don't know how you do it, but you do...and it's something done motivated by love.

All I can simply say is: I admire and respect you for what you are doing. It'd be so nice if you could get some assistance in his on-going care. Hopefully, there are some resources in the province of Nova Scotia for this.

Wishing you the very best, and for your son's steady improvement.

    Great thread Shera!

Hope you get support for yourself? I keywork adults with autism and one of the guys have no family visits or contact but for the majority the parents keep in regular touch and have the guys home for special events. They care so much and that is so refreshing. Restores faith. Remember you need support too, it is no simple task to raise a child with autism, is there not a voluntary parents association that you could get in touch with? The System is cruel, they ask for so much money and yet the parents have to stay home from work to look after their children. Catch 22.

Give your little guy a hug for us, he is very special.

Sounds like you made a very good decision Shera. Nobody knows his needs better then you do. Not only is it a great decision, but also count your blessings that you are able to do so. I am with Brummie - don't forget about yourself either.

You are a courageous woman, quite an inspiration. It is a sacrifice to give up work to look after your son, but the rewards will be so much greater than if you hadn't. Kudos to you!

    Shera,

Have you heard of the Sonshine program? My wife helps a friend with her autistic child. They are following the Sonshine program and the boy has made tremendous progress in only one year.

It's not guaranteed to work, but it can potentially cure autism (and has in many cases).

huh? Autism cannot be cured, its not a disease its a way of life. I'm not meaning to sound controversial but were is the documetation for someone being cured of autism?
