Beards a-poppin!

I live in a pretty conservative area of the United States, and in the past two decades I can remember 2, that's right, TWO instances of seeing a JW with a beard in my area. (Not counting myself at times, 😜, and I'm obviously not counting bearded visitors dressed in casual clothes).

However at this year's convention, I saw about a DOZEN bearded JWs . . . This is like an explosion where I live. They were dressed in meeting clothes but more importantly, they had name tags, which means they are baptized and at least moderately active. Several were helping with dismantling the convention afterwards, one helping on the stage.

That being said I realize that none of them are likely Ministerial Servants, and per current policy do not qualify to appear on an assembly program. Still, it's worth noting the sudden influx of beards in an area like mine. Jehovah is certainly speeding up the ingathering 😜

I guess if they aren't being used for "privileges" anyway, then like the Ethiopian eunuch they ask themselves, 'What prevents me from growing a beard?'

Same here in the UK. I saw a guy sporting a full hipster job this weekend. Or maybe I should call it a Taze, as in C T Russel. I know two MSs with beards, on appointed with, one grew it after.

    Insidious rebellion from within.

Yeah it's been happening in Europe for years, but in the US it's newsworthy.

I dreamed last night that my ex-wife, a JW, had a full beard.

    Honest.

I wonder if this is analogous to what happened in the mid- to late sixties when the occasional brother sported a colored shirt and disapproval was palpable. But over the years an increasing number of brothers did so to the point where colored shirts became a non-issue.

All JW organization needs is a growing number of males sporting beards and - coupled with the decreasing number of "suitable" males for MS and elders - I wouldn't be surprised if bearded males were soon appointed to these positions.

To alter that old saying, "Necessity is the mother of new light".

Very true Steve2. I remember in this country when an assembly hall was been built. At the start of the project I was refused because my F'S hours were not high enough. However as the project continued and they required more labour, FS hours were no longer a priority and I was accepted. I also heard of an un- believing husband who was favourable toward the jws also been asked to help because he had a specialised skill set.

    Yes, steve2, a full blown nachtemare . . .
