    According to the "new light" the faithful slave class appeared after Jesus came 1914 (rather 1918 he inspected the temple) and was bestowed with assigement to provide spiritual food.

    There are a number of problems with this new concept:

    How did Russel and Co found out about certain unique teachings diffferent from mainstream christendom?

    option 1) Apparently by himself, as there was no FDS at his time. This means, that everything he was teaching, can always be (and in many cases it was) subject to change, including the interpretation of prophecy reagrding the 2520 days leading to 1914. So why do they pride themselves so much in his prediction of 1914 ? It means not more than any teaching of catholics, protestants or whatsowever. He was not guided by spirit, as the FS claims now to be.

    option 2) There was no FDS, but Russel still had Jehovahs special help to find out the truth. Ok, but what about Jesus choice 1918? He came to earth and choose people who were on the right track and elevated them as FDS class. But this doesnt make sense, if they already had Gods backing before. Why make a big deal about them being chosen, when they were already privileged and had support? how is the comparison to other groups, who also tried to understand the bible, fair? The other groups had no divine backing and the outcome of Jesus choice was already preidctable and the whole procedure becomes a farce.

    What is your idea?

    It's just another parable and has no prophetic significance.

    It's a device used by the cult leaders to establish their own narcissistic authority.

    @ inbetween09 - The answer is so clear & simple for anyone to see;

    Brother Rutherford and several of his companions were jailed as a result of statements by J.F.R. in a publication. They were released after serving a short part of the sentence. During this short period of inactivity within the prison's walls, God & Christ examined these incarcerated men, and decided that they alone represented the hierarchy of the only true religion on planet earth, and as such, fulfilled Jesus illustration prophecy about a faithful and discreet slave. Following their release from prison, Brother Rutherford then revealed this wonderful "new light" to the worldwide brotherhood!

    Just because Brother Rutherford invented explained this "prophetic" fulfilment and claimed the title of FDS for his corporation, doesn't mean it isn't true!

    Scriptural evidence is not a requirement in this instance - just faith in men.

    As you stated also, its just an illustration, not a prophecy, however, in order to reason with JW sometimes its beneficial to leave the premisses (that the illustration should be in fact a prophecy) out of question, and show them how even the logic of the resulting conclusions fall apart upon scrutiny.

    Tweeners - in order to reason with JW

    Now there's a task and a half, if ever there was one. A JW that wants to remain in the cult will never agree to anything that will make the GB or WBT$ look wrong. I s'pose it's worth a try but........good luck.

    This change in doctrine (aka "New Light") is probably the single most important fact that could open the eyes of Witnesses right next to the "overlapping generations".

    Traditionally, New Light has been minor adjustments in doctrine. Even the Overlapping Generation still has the final point that "this generation will by no means pass away." They just kicked the can down the road...again.

    Once I learned about this new change I became downright baffled why any Witness who has been in the organization for over 30 years didn't just pick up and leave. The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society was founded by Charles Taze Russell. The Governing Body literally just tore out about 25% of the Proclaimers book, burned it, and denied it ever existed.

    Then to add insult to injury, they say the Faithful and Discreet Slave Class has been reduced to 7 men in New York. 7 people does not constitute a class of people. It was a giant middle finger given to all those who claim to be of the annointed.

    My dad has claimed to be of the annointed since he joined the religion way back in the 1960s. I am shocked that he is still in.
