There is no AI. There is machine pattern matching that gives the illusion of intelligence, but it's not self awareness in the sense that we picture "life".

    I'm not afraid of AI.

I'm definitely not saying that just because the cloud might be listening. No siree bob.

Well not yet, but our own brains are proof that consciousness can exist in constructs mad of physical matter, given the right amount of complexity, so if things continue as they are it's just a matter of time.

I think I could accomodate a Gort type AI but I dont think I want to see a T-1000 type AI to be unleashed on the world.

Not that any of it is going to happen in my lifetime.LOL

I attended a lecture 2 weeks ago on this topic and it was pretty clear that our world is about to change again:

    '90s - internet

    '00's - tablets/broadband

    '10's - smartphones/mobile internet

    '20s - AI

It's hard to say what is exactly the impact will be. But it will be profound. The guy pointed out this story and said, why tell your kids to train to be lawyers? Why get your kids to train to be teachers?

So yes - the sci-fi vision of Terminator robots will likely not happen, but the job market will go through a collosal change over the next 10 years.

    Scary/exciting times!

I would say the big change coming in the 2020's is far more likely to be AR (augmented reality) glasses that work well, not a true AI

It appears that self driving cars will be a dominant part of our lives within the next 5 to 10 years. My concern is how do we adjust to one of the largest employers of adult males going away.

I think the biggest breakthrough applications we will see in widespread use in the near future would be:

    • Self-driving cars.
    • Medical diagnosis and treatment.
    • Real-time translation of live speech from one language to another while mimicking the speaker's voice.
    • Forecasting - weather, fashion, social trends, etc.

I think there is a lot of hope out their for self learning robots of all sorts and do away with a manual labor force and say good buy to a lot of jobs will that be paradise or hell?

DeepMind, projects are going to change everything if you ask me.
