I have been informed multiple times by my friend and in front of his family, that I will be invited to the wedding although I cense he is greatly conflicted for the reasons people mention here and that I am still awaiting an official invitation.
I think poster, Nugget provides the simplest option for all involved. Namely,
" You can get rid of the elephant in the room by saying I am happy for you, I know that you may not be able to invite all your friends as family takes priority but I will be thinking of you and hope you enjoy your day."
