I wouldn't say it's a "clamping down", more of perhaps it's becoming a greater problem than ever. Alcoholism isn't a "permissible vice" - you can be df'd for alcoholism if the elders become aware of it.

I would say overeating is the only vice that everyone overlooks.

Oh the agony of it - I cannot recall the last time I saw one of these programmes, and I just cannot believe that the WTS expects people to sit through virtually three hours of utter twaddle, morning and afternoon. I remember now the difficulties my wife, and other women must have suffered with young children in attendance. It is little wonder now that both my sons utterly despise the JWs.
