Yes, it does seem to me too, that the Governing Body has made to door open for birthdays once again.

Because while the application of this update was all about the clinking of glasses, which is now to be just viewed a friendly act. The telling comment about wedding rings (although known to have pagan origins) seems to me more important.

However as the Governing Body likes to use of precedents, by referring back past Watchtower articles or announcement, there might well be more in this line of reasoning. Thus in six months time, a Governing Body member could quite easily refer back to this update as the foundation for a discussion of birthdays. Saying in fact that while birthday celebrations may have had a religious connection thousands of years ago, its now just viewed as another ... friendly act.

For as long as I can remember, clinking glasses was a no-no way back to the early 1970s when my parents joined the JWs, the "clinking" sound was a signal to the [false] god of good luck (leprechauns?). Offering a toast, on the other hand wasn't really much of an issue, especially if it was to offer best wishes to the newlywed couple at their wedding reception.

A JW and an atheist pop into a pub for a beer. After the bartender brings both a pint, the two gents clink their mugs and toast to their mutual belief that there is no such thing as an immaterial soul or spirit.

At that exact moment, the bartender sneezes and sees the JW and atheist sheepishly staring at him. For a moment all three were thinking the same thing.

    What were they thinking?

They were thinking should I say bless you?

    now we can 👌

Someone, quick! Download the Caleb and Sophia video where Caleb feels extreme guilt for wanting to eat a birthday cupcake and he thinks Jehovah is mad at him for wanting the cupcake. 😂😂😂

    2025 Governing Body Update #4
"Therefore, after prayerful consideration, the Governing Body has concluded that there is no need to make a rule regarding toasting and clinking glasses. Each Christian should use the principles that we have discussed in this update and his own Bible-trained conscience to make a good decision. What does this mean? Are we saying that toasting is OK now at all times and in every situation? Of course not. We are simply saying that there is no need to make a rule."

So by that statement a reasoning person should conclude that the governing body shouldn’t make any rules that aren’t in the bible.

But reasoning isn’t a strong suit among jws

Yes, hoser, the GB implies their "suggestions" are not "rules" but its adherents/members don't feel the same way, and the really "holy" ones just don't make their own decision, they insist the other jws have to do the same thing.
