  I didnt go to my prom. In fact I didnt go to any dances, parties, or sporting events. It was my biggest regret from highschool, was missing prom. Of course I had no skills with the opposite sex, so I probably wouldnt have even went if I wasnt JW. But a couple years later, my company had a huge formal dinner at a hotel. I got to get all decked out. My then boyfriend and I broke up that day. So my gay friend (who just happens to be a GAP model) escorted me. No one knew he was gay, and everyone thought I had the hottest date. My best friend (also an ex-jw) took pictures and everything, just like it was prom. So I got to make up for it :)

  One of my closest friends in high school (I only had like three) invited me to prom. He was a Quaker, on the football team, a great human being, he even went to the hall a couple of times.

  Of course I couldn't go, I told him I "already had plans" that I couldn't change. I think that was the biggest bunch of bullshit; I begged to go to the prom.

  By the way, I should mention, this kid had to turn down scholarships because he couldn't decide if he wanted to go pre-Law or pre-Med. A genius, a real nice guy and cute to boot.

  I think that if I had a relationship with him, that would've been a real nice experience to recount to my children. I know he was and is a good, awesome person.

  The only reason my kids won't go is if they don't want to. I will never treat my children the way us good little "jw" kids were treated.

  Sandy, yeah, that is irony isn't it? I began to lead a "double life" shortly after I had graduated hs. Too bad, it didn't start sooner!

  Andi, you go girl! I know that you will make an awesome mom. I feel like my daughters life will reap the benefits of the mistakes I made-does that make sense? Lol

  (((((((Undercover))))))))) I immersed myself in books and writing growing up. But, I was fortunate enough to have a few good friends at the hall and a few outside of the hall (which I eventually managed to alienate with my jw attitude.) I am glad that with the passage of time, you are finding it getting better.

  LDH, I so feel for you! I agree, it would have been a nice experience to relate to my own child.

  Too bad you guys weren't in high school back in the 60's. We did all that stuff. Proms and all............even sports and class offices. And we stayed "in the truth". I wonder why they put the bans on it? Seems so dumb looking back. I could do it all but my kids couldn't.

  Yep, one more banned, or at least seriously frowned upon item, the Prom. Room215 is right, some jw parents allow their kids to go anyway. One local girl, from what I heard, even one homecoming queen, which of course was definitely frowned upon, though I am not sure how that situation ended up.
