The "anointed generation" is wrong, not because it is dragging on too long, but because it is too short.

Jesus teaching his apostles about the over lapping generation or in other words "what he really meant to say"

Village Idiot has a point. They are trapped in the explanation of the generation--and there is no way of coming out.

They easy way is to take the date of 586 BEC as the fall of Jerusalem (as the Jews themselves take) not 607 BCE. This will give them enough time to prove "this generation" that was on hand in 1935 CE will not pass away.

However, this would mean they abandon their prestige year of 1914. If they are really God's people, they can do it--taking a corrective course will only add to their beauty.

    notjustyet, anointed1, thanks,

The problem with the generation is not that is now overlapping. that idea was a reaction to 1914 fading into the past. too fast. The problem is the "anointing" of the generation, overlapping or not. If anointed, they will have to report for combat duty in heaven, -- well ahead of the start of the war: -- Armageddon, and they are not supposed to die, pass away, until the sheep are in paradise.

split personalities? or anointed Schroedinger cats? dead and alive at the same time? really?,

Jews believed God dwelled in the temple. And the temple was the center of the universe in a sense. Jesus was talking about the destruction of the temple. The destruction was the end of the world to Jewish people. They mourn in the temple even today.

JWs ignore any cultural context of the New Testament.

At best any symbolic meaning Jesus was talking about his own execution.

This is well settled in mainstream Christianity. Nothing about types and antitypes...

Any attack on Christianity having the strawman JW theology as base is pure nonsense.

    Who was Jesus speaking to?

A small group of disciples in 33AD.

When did the great tribulation occur back then? 70AD when the Romans sacked Jerusalem.

    37 years later!

    End of story!

Ps - Mark was written after 70AD, which the other two synoptic gospels embellish upon.

John_Mann, thank you: well put, but the headline, based on Kennedy's moon program quote, is not an attack on Christianity, but a proposition to expose wt's faulty move to introduce the "anointed" generation, abandoning the accepted idea, that Jesus must have been talking about ordinary folks living, listening right then and there. The thread is to rub wr's noses into their own charts to prove to their followers that the anointed come up short, and wrong. again.

fukitol you wrote: "When did the great tribulation occur back then? 70AD when the Romans sacked Jerusalem.

you are right, even if mark and followers really wrote about prophesy after the fact. but wt has taken these words to be relevant in the millennia to come, and the "Generation is too short, not too long" headline wants to prove that this particular "anointed" is flawed , just by not conforming to the Matthew text. a still birth of a doctrine.

lest we forget: The anointed generation is the central doctrine of WTBtS now. it should not be left to be proven wrong in 2075, but now. It is too short. time to abort.

Keep in mind he talked in riddles to seperate people who didn't care, from people who really wanted to know what he was about.

All he was saying was that every generation of man after his assuming the heavenly throne would see these events he described as the great tribulation, if you read josephus all those things were happening during the first Roman empire. And as you go on in history this happened through the centuries, big earth quakes, wars, mass starvations and sicknesses. Basically he laid the foundation that the generation in his time would not pass away until seeing all of these described tribulations by either hearing about it or seeing it personally, and it would continually cycle through these things until his return, progressively getting worse.

megaboy; a great observation, but in this text, Math. 24-25 we have specific questions asked by very interested people, and answered in a private audience. The question, verse 3, basically was " -when -- the end of this world? " so, my opening proposition is entirely time - based, "--long vs short--" of the important ,central" this generation." question.

time would not pass away until seeing all of these described tribulations by either hearing about it or seeing it personally, and it would continually cycle through these things until his return, progressively getting worse.

megaboy: a great summary what has really happened. What you are saying is, that the generation is not only overlapping, but has done so since 033. ha ha ha. but

My observation was not about the overlap, but the end of the " Anointed only" generation invented by wt. That wt generation ends before Armageddon, way too short, for, in Jesus' total answer, the sheep in the last generation go on, go into Life Eternal.

Your's in an ongoing generation, as I read it, part of the last generation is supposed to be going into life eternal. --Would that not be a unexpected surprise for all of us; therefore:

isn't the wt anointed generation way too short? even if it had to be already stretched by overlapping?

quoted by BAD_WOLF: Only the survivors of Armageddon would be the Generation that does not pass away, and the Anointed are not it. wt take note.

A bible secret the WT seem to not understand.....

Revelation 3:10 talks of those who will be exempted and kept from the so called great tribulation. The great tribulation for those who didn't prove themselves. That scripture alone throws out the entire WT teaching about the GT of the bible.
