Actually, looking very much like Tom Jones has been a double edged sword. Gets me into situations many would die for, gets me killed when they find out I can't sing a note!

Part of what I do for a living requires that I read people, try to see what they are thinking. As much as looks can certainly be deceiving, the vast majority of the time, the first impression is dead on.
The way a person carries themself, dress, etc can tell a lot about the person. Are their exceptions, sure.
