I noticed pure double standards where TV was concerned.

Some holier than holy brothers used to sit and tut whenever a swear word was mentioned, yet they used to sit through films filled with spiritism and sex and it didn't seem to affect their conscience one I - OTA . One brother even allowed his family to own Satillite TV, unaware of the so called dangers in possessed.

    More fool them.

I know a group that watched a movie a few years back cant remember which one but they said that they should of walked out. Anyway this Bro had a little Mini (thats the care - so get yer minds out the gutter) and he said that the car got posessed driving home and steered itself towards another car and the brakes jammed. - te he is what I say!

I remember when Ferngully was frowned upon too. And of course ET.

It's amazing that for how supposedly "spiritually" strong these people are, they are held in constant fear that the least little thing is going to damage their spirituality.

And notice too how again, the WTS need not print lists of movies not to see (though they did mention Basic Instinct by name a few years ago in an Awake article). The jws themselves, with the police-state enforcement of the elders, will see to it that people do not get to see certain movies, or that if they do there will be repercussions. It's quite a system or repression they have going there, isn't it?

Yep. ET = Jesus or some crap like that. It was 'bad'. Star Wars, also 'bad'. Any movie w/ the word damn in it - you guessed it - 'bad'.

I can remember back in the 70's when I was a teen. This pioneer sister said she walked out of the movie Airplane. Can you belive that. A classic!!! One of the funniest movies of all time. I didn't want to tell her I had seen it 3 times already.

Also there was talk going around the Hall of not watching the movie Alladin. Because of all the magic and the Genie and blah blah blah. But the kicker is brothers saying not to watch Toy Story. Why you ask? Because the toys come to life. Must be under demon influence.

All true..I can't make this stuff up.

It def. seems that European witnesses are much more lax when it comes to entertainment than their American counterparts. Most of the films mentioned would be considered "dubious" by the majority of at least younger than 40 JW in Northern Europe. It is no fuss over "R"-rated films either.

Diamond - lol @ "I can't make this suff up" - indeed, this stuff is so ridiculous, no rational person could invent it.

After my bible study conductor (my age) finished conducting his studying with me, he invited me to hang out with him for the rest of the day that Sunday. We got into his bright yellow Mustang and drove around town. We ended up in the city of Oakland, California. He it was that introduced me to my very first X-rated porn movie: "I Am Curious Blue." Wow!
