Women are to be given the right to drive cars in Saudi Arabia by royal decree from next June. The topic title is one of the reactions. No longer will women be arrested for driving.

Those conservatives who are objecting don't like change!!! but they will get used to it when families see how much money they save from not having to hire chauffeurs anymore.

I bet the voice command in the modern vehicle has to have a males voice. Their legs will get tangled from their garb. That country has evil policing.

What has religion done for mankind?

    stunted it's growth!

@punkofnice Christopher Hitchens: "Religion's great strength is that it was the first of our attempts to explain reality, to make those patterns take some kind of form. It deserves credit. It was our first attempt at astronomy; our first attempt at cosmology; in some ways our first attempt at medicine; our first attempt at literature; our first attempt at philosophy. Good, while there was nothing else it had many functional uses of mankind. Never mind that they didn't know that germs caused disease, maybe evil spirits caused disease, maybe disease is a punishment; never mind that they believed in astrology rather than astronomy (even Thomas Aquinas believed in astrology); never mind that they believed in devils; never mind that things like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tidal waves were thought of as punishments, not as natural occurrences on the cooling crust of a planet."

Cliffs Notes version according to your girl WHAM! over here: Because religion is mankind's FIRST attempt at explaining the universe, it is also our WORST attempt. Rarely do we ever get things right from the first go with no hindsight or experience to go off of. It blows my mind that mankind still stubbornly clings to "take one" when it's been lying on the cutting room floor for centuries now.

At least Saudi are moving in the right direction.

But women drivers still have to wear the full face veil (niqab) in public, right?

This means that, in addition to looking like Darth Vader, the driver's vision might be impeded.

You're right LUHE. While driving Only hands and eyes can show and all the rules re unrelated male passengers etc etc of course, still stand.

Sounded more like a new way women can be arrested, beaten or harrassed for not following the rules.
