Over on the Silentlambs Facebook site is a copy of a document that purports to be an order by the Service Depart to destroy files relating to child molestation cases: https://www.facebook.com/Silentlambs/photos/a.571978169529812.1073741826.144752662252367/970409503020008/?type=3&theater

Have any of you seen this? Is this a real document or bogus?

My understanding is that this is nothing new. They have always been told to destroy personal notes. I think there have been previous audit checklists in years past. It's not ethical to destroy notes on crimes, but they have never been big on helping out the police. During the ARC the elders admitted to destroying notes so that their spouses wouldn't find them. It's been a common practice for decades.

Oh the shredders have been running on high for years but eventually things comes back to bite you. It can take years for this to happen but it happens.

It's certainly consistent with the way they've always behaved, but the present document specifies a December 31, 2015 deadline. It's generating quite a buzz in the Italian blog Geova.Org. Its disclosure could land the in serious trouble, since it shows they're oblivious to the fact that pedophilia is A CRIME, as much as murder, rape, etc. are, not a mere moral failing or sin, and that such destruction of evidence is punishable by law.

Although they may well be able to destroy all information on crimes, there may well come a point in time when the authorities really take an interest in what JWs are doing, it will be clearly documented that the Elders were regularly told to destroy evidence.

There question will then be, "What type of evidence have they destroyed"?

Anyone know if this happening world wide? Canada as well?

Clarity: Anyone know if this happening world wide? Canada as well?

I would like to know this as well.

If there is a copy of this directive that is specific to Canadian congregations, could it please be posted or linked?

A copy should be sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office for Canada, [email protected].

And also to the Attorney General:

    The Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada
    284 Wellington Street
    Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0H8

    [email protected]

If the WatchTower Society insists on engaging in their kangaroo judical system, then they should also be held accountable to secular standards on the collection and retention of evidence in possible criminal investigations.

This document was posted on this forum days ago and there is a good thread explaining that it was only for the UK and instituted in 2000 to comply with the Data Protection Act. Abuse files are handled separately and not destroyed and sealed in blue envelopes. Personal notes on abuse cases can be kept in that envelope. Read the thread, it brings clarity and focus as to what genuine issues may be, not a panic that all documents regarding child sex abuse are being destroyed.

    From that thread-
Document clarified:UK has a data protection law. JW's complied with it.
Since 2000/2001 all congregation judicial records (envelopes) EXCEPT child molestation cases are to be destroyed by the service committee and replaced with a file which lists:
Name of 3 elders on case/date/name of individual/ and reproved or DFD/DA'd in file. No details kept.
Child molestation cases are sent to the branch in its entirety and a separate child protection file is kept by the secretary with basic details of the case. Accessible to ALL elders.
Every year the elders get a reminder to do an audit with the checklist shown. It is the service committee's responsibility to do it. Ongoing child molestation cases are not destroyed but sent to the branch and basic details are kept in the congregation child protection file. Each elder must destroy anything he "inadvertently" kept such as his personal notes from any judicial matter he dealt with.

    This is so true.

The overreaction and sensationalization of this document is embarrassing.
