    PARADISE SOON

     *** w99 7/15 18 Anchored by Hope, Impelled by Love ***
9 A few dedicated Christians in some parts of the world appear to have reefed the sails of their ship of faith. The ship is still afloat, but instead of forging ahead in full faith, they have adopted a cruising speed. Drawn by the hope of “Paradise soon,” some were prepared to spare no efforts to attain it—zealous in the preaching work and regular in attendance at all meetings, assemblies, and conventions. Now thinking that the realization of their hopes is farther off than they anticipated, they have lowered the price they are willing to pay. This is evident in reduced preaching activity, irregularity at meetings, and willingness to miss parts of assembly or convention programs. Others are devoting more time to recreation and to obtaining material comforts. These facts lead us to consider what should be the driving force in our lives in line with our dedication to Jehovah. Should our zeal in his service be dependent on the hope of “Paradise soon”?

When does "soon" actually become "not so soon". Its been "soon" for 130 + years ffs

I also think they will downplay 144,000 teaching in the run up to 2034, starting first with with the removal of "partakers" from the year book in the next 5-7 years. Then after 2034 "nu lite" about 144,000 being symbolic.

Heck, they might even start teaching Jesus was a symbolic character, the gospels being one big metaphor. The way the WTS talk about him now is not far from that idea...

And yes, this would sound quite mad if an outsider is looking in is reading this, but those of us that are "inn", realize crazy ideas like these in JW land are not as crazy as they sound.

I heard that 120 year theory bounced around in the past to explain the failure of 1975.

120 years from the date of the 1st issue of the WT 1879-1999  (Oops! That didn't happen.)

120 years from 1914 gets them to 2034

120 years from 1919 gets them to 2039

120 years from adopting the name JWs (1931) gets them to 2051

    YAWN! You get the picture.

Oh Blondie... I so remember the days... and yes, they WT loves to put the blame on the people 'who never doubted a word they said.' ..... wait.... Did the WT say it? or did the publishers make it up...... yes, that is the game.

that works - swop ps90:10 for gen6:3 and you get to keep the whole 1914 + generation eschatology.  Perfect

oppostate's mention of 2000 years since passover/pentecost 33 CE is interesting; It would not be the first time that  wt has latched onto other's concepts like that.

The supposed end of the wt-type memorial celebrations, after 2000 of them. not.

It will be interesting to see which of these suggestions the WTS chooses. You folks do realize that this board is their most creative group for brainstorming new doctrinal excuses/ideas.

There is some very clever people in charge of WTS, they don't need any input from us really.

2034 fits in nicely with the overlapping generation as well. It's about as far as you push it before you have to reevaluate.

They will hint highly at 2034, but i doubt they will ever actually specifically say the date. Then just blame the sheeple for getting over zealous.
