    their at it. again.

i don't often go to the web site of my former cult membership, and employer (after all i DID publish for them)... but tonight i was surfing around and discovered this page.

    here is the contents:

JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES OFFICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION
    Jehovah's Witnesses and Child Protection

Child abuse is abhorrent to us. This is in harmony with the principle recorded at Romans 12:9. Even one abused child is one too many. For decades The Watchtower and Awake! have featured articles to educate both Witnesses and the public regarding the importance and the need to protect children from child abuse. Among others, there was the article "Let Us Abhor What Is Wicked!" published in the January 1, 1997, issue of The Watchtower ; "Help for the Victims of Incest" in the October 1, 1983, Watchtower, "Your Child Is in Danger!", "How Can We Protect Our Children?", and "Prevention in the Home", all in the October 8, 1993, Awake!, as well as "Child MolestingEvery Mother's Nightmare," in the January 22, 1985, Awake!

When any one of Jehovah's Witnesses is accused of an act of child abuse, the local congregation elders are expected to investigate. Two elders meet separately with the accused and the accuser to see what each says on the matter. If the accused denies the charge, the two elders may arrange for him and the victim to restate their position in each other's presence, with elders also there. If during that meeting the accused still denies the charges and there are no others who can substantiate them, the elders cannot take action within the congregation at that time. Why not? As a Bible-based organization, we must adhere to what the Scriptures say, namely, "No single witness should rise up against a man respecting any error or any sin . . . At the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses the matter should stand good." (Deuteronomy 19:15) Jesus reaffirmed this principle as recorded at Matthew 18:15-17. However, if two persons are witnesses to separate incidents of the same kind of wrongdoing, their testimony may be deemed sufficient to take action.

However, even if the elders cannot take congregational action, they are expected to report the allegation to the branch office of Jehovah's Witnesses in their country, if local privacy laws permit. In addition to making a report to the branch office, the elders may be required by law to report even uncorroborated or unsubstantiated allegations to the authorities. If so, we expect the elders to comply. Additionally, the victim may wish to report the matter to the authorities, and it is his or her absolute right to do so.

If, when confronted, the accused confesses that he is guilty of child abuse, the elders take appropriate congregational action. If he is not repentant, he will not be permitted to remain a member of the congregation. Even if he is repentantis cut to the heart and is thus resolutely determined to avoid such conduct in the futurewhat was stated in the January 1, 1997, issue of The Watchtower applies. The article said: "For the protection of our children, a man known to have been a child molester does not qualify for a responsible position in the congregation. Moreover, he cannot be a pioneer [full-time missionary of Jehovah's Witnesses] or serve in any other special, full-time service." He would not qualify Scripturally. (1 Timothy 3:2, 7-10) We take such action because we are concerned with maintaining Bible standards and protecting our children. Everyone in our organization is expected to meet the same requirements, namely, to be clean physically, mentally, morally, and spiritually.2 Corinthians 7:1; Ephesians 4:17-19; 1 Thessalonians 2:4.

In a few instances, individuals guilty of an act of child abuse have been appointed to positions within the congregation if their conduct has been otherwise exemplary for decades. All the factors are considered carefully. Suppose, for example, that a long time ago a 16-year-old boy had sexual relations with a consenting 15-year-old girl. Depending upon the U.S. jurisdiction where he lived when this happened, elders may have been required to report this as an incident of child abuse. Let us say that 20 years have passed. The child abuse reporting law may have changed; the man may have even married the girl! Both have been living exemplary lives and they are respected. In such a rare case, the man could possibly be appointed to a responsible position within the congregation.

Our procedures have been refined over time. Over the years, as we have noted areas where our policies could be strengthened, we have followed through. We are continuing to refine them. We do not believe that our system is perfect. No human organization is perfect. But we do believe that we have a strong, Bible-based policy on child abuse. Anyone in a responsible position who is guilty of child abuse would be removed from his responsibilities without hesitation. We certainly would not knowingly allow him to serve elsewhere, either because he moved or through a transfer.

The Bible teaches that individuals can repent of their sins and "turn to God by doing works that befit repentance," and we accept what the Bible says. (Acts 26:20) Still, the safety of our children is of the utmost importance. We take it very seriously.

In other words, elders who have absolutely NO SENSITIVITY TRAINING in matters surrounding sexual abuse are expected to taint the OFFICIAL POLICE INVESTIGATION PROCESS by interrogating a sexually abused child, without the presence of a support person, about the intimate details of the abuse. They then ask the accused if it is true. And if the accused denies it, they force the child to go through ANOTHER HUMILIATING INTERROGATION SESSION, IN FRONT OF THEIR ABUSER, to describe in lurid detail what the abuser did to them, who can THEN DENY THE CHARGES and call the CHILD a LIAR, AGAIN, to their face this time, without the presence of a support person. Whereupon the elders consider the matter closed. After going through this psychologically traumatic process of humiliation and degradation, and then being called a LIAR - not once, but twice - the victim "may wish to report the matter to the authorities", likely after the victim has been advised that the POLICE will put them through the VERY SAME PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN. Oh, and by the way, DON'T YOU DARE SLANDER BROTHER So-and-So, or BRING REPROACH ON JEHOVAH. But you DO have the ABSOLUTE RIGHT to go to the authorities. Yeah RIGHT. What sexually and now psychologically tortured child is going to want to go through THAT ALL OVER AGAIN???

Rotting in hell is too good for these @$$hole$.

These blundering morons are doing everything in their power to confuse and mishandle any investigation that comes before them. Imagine subjecting a child to this level of trauma and degradation after the s.o.b. has told her/him that they won't be believed anyway. Then calling the child a liar in front of the monster who molested them.

Parents! Take warning now. If your child acts strangely after an encounter with anyone in the org., take them to the local hospital and get a rape kit done. Contact a social worker at the hospital and have them call the police. Don't go to the elders!

I just thought of something else, related to this statement:

However, if two persons are witnesses to separate incidents of the same kind of wrongdoing, their testimony may be deemed sufficient to take action.

Let's suppose that in an average congregation, there might be 6-10 elders.

What are the chances that Brother Diddles-Little-Girls&Boys gets reported to the SAME elder by two separate children to report "separate incidents of the same kind of wrongdoing"?

Let's say Janey's parents are friends with Brother Elder, who has a good working relationship with Brother Kisses-CO-Butt. Janey goes through the process with these two elders, and Brother Diddles-Little-Girls&Boys denies everything. Case closed because there is no corroborating evidence. Brother Elder informs the WTS Legal Department that the matter was handled according to policy and there was no basis for reproof or any other congregation action. The sealed envelope is filed in a locked cabinet at the KH.

Six months later Mary and her parents go to their friend, Brother Newly Appointed, with allegations that Brother Diddles-Little-Girls&Boys wedged his hand under Mary's bottom while the car group was driving around doing RVs. Brother Newly Appointed goes to his mentor, Brother Bigshot Business Tycoon to process the allegations. Again Brother Diddles-Little-Girls&Boys denies all accusations. Brother Newly Appointed and Brother Bigshot Business Tycoon say there is no corroborating evidence, so they have to leave it in Jehovah's hands. Brother Newly Appointed calls WTS Legal and advises them that the matter was handled according to policy and there was no basis for reproof or any other congregation action. The sealed envelope is filed in a locked cabinet at the KH.

In your average congregation, this scenario could be replayed with several combinations of elders being asked to handle the separate incidents.... and unless there is communication among the elder body..... is there?? that's what I want to know..... nobody will pick up on this guy's behaviour for a long time. Pedophiles aren't stupid..... they are patient. They select their target and garner their trust and develop a bond with them over a prolonged period of time. Especially in a congregation setting, they know who their target's family is friends with. They know how to evade detection. They know how to work the system. They know how to not get caught. They are counting on loopholes like the one I described to facilitate their "habit".

It's called feeling the heat man, they bite themselves in the ass and are providing first aid on themselves.

Pathetic, in stead of hiding behind the curtain why not fix the problem!

When any one of Jehovah's Witnesses is accused of an act of child abuse

Isn't this a contradiction? Can anybody be serving Jehovah and be a child abuser at the same time?

Seems like a paradox to me. Bunch of phonies.

Words are easy. Action is what is needed.

    Scully -- you asked:

unless there is communication among the elder body..... is there?? that's what I want to know....
From what I remember, the elders are supposed to report what they hear to the presiding overseer, who (at least mentally) keeps track of things. Of course, we know that kind of a system is unreliable. I wouldn't want to be a victim at the mercy of a presiding overseer's memory.

But if you really want to know who keeps track of things going on in the congregation, why, that would be the elder's wives (of course). How they ever find things out is beyond my wildest dreams!!

In the case of Daniel Fitzwater, there were SEVENTEEN people that accused him of molesting them and still he was not brought before a judicial committee. In his report to the WTS, the circuit overseer said that he recommended that an investigatory committee be formed. He should have been reported to the authorities long before that.

I loved Scully's names for the elders, lol! Brother Big Business Tycoon!

    This jumped out at me:

    No human organization is perfect.

There they go again... they are GOD's channel/organization, until they want to whimper around. Then all the sudden they revert back to being a non-perfect "Human Organization.

Too bad they do not have a "discuss this topic" section at the bottom of that webpage...

    Thanks zev for the info!

Child abuse is abhorrent to us

And so are children who speak out....

Seems to me the question was never "is child abuse abhorrent to you?", its a red herring to avoid the real issue. JRB always spouts off this statement and NEVER addresses any other.
