    I heard about a book called The Passover Plot but I don't remember who the author is. The author explains why he doesn't believe Jesus could have been resurrected. It made sense to me but then again I'm not Christian.

    It is near impossible for hard core christians to believe that there are people who think their book contains nothing but fairy tales. As stated, they just assume that the person is in denial or god hasn't shined his light on them yet. I had two Baptists come to my door and their first question was whether I believed that the Bible was the word of god. I said no and they had nothing left to say. The Jesus Mysteries book is pretty good and compelling like others but even they accept the fact that it is nothing more than educated guessing. All scientific fact point to Pagan origins for the Jesus myth, you can either accept this or not.

    While Yizuman is talking about things that are "funny". I find it funny that christians always assume that they are right and 80% of the world is wrong.

    I will not follow a set of ridiculous rules written by men thousands of years ago.

    The only "set of ridiculous rules" in the Bible for Christians are the following:

    * Love your neighbor the same as you love yourself (your neighbor is any human)

    * Do to others what you want done to you

    * Love your enemies

    * Love God

    I was going to rant about this, but then I forgot what I was going to rant about.

    Damnit, I'm starting to get too old for this....*sigh*....

    That's true, those are fairly ridiculous.

    I'd propose a better set:

    * Be the best person you can be, whether any good could come of it to you or not. That may mean treating people better than you've ever been treated, or being kind to people when you just want to be left alone (IE., being kind to others when you don't want kindness returned).

    * Don't have enemies (this is always stupid to me - the biblical obsession with 'enemies'. Why say 'You're my enemy, but I love you'? Why not just, 'You're a fellow human I have compassion for?')

    Which is why the bible is useless.

    It's entire focus is on two archaic and useless premises:

    - You need to have enemies (but 'love' them).

    - Love and kindness is conditional (both what you receive, and what you should give out)

    Apologies for the delay....I have been busy.

    Undisfellowshipped--many religions promote those ideas. Big deal.

    Doing unto others makes sense....it is logical. If I don't want to be hit on the head, one of the best ways to avoid that, is to not hit you on the head. See? Logical.

    Love your neighbors---that one deserves some discussion. I have great neighbors on one side. Crappy neighbors on the other. Would I give either one a kidney? NO. The nice one's get invites for dinner, etc. The crappy ones get a wave as a drive by. That is it. The nice ones don't blare music, leave lights on all night, have wild parties. The crappy ones do. However, I am willing to ignore that type of crap. Why fight? Just don't make me love them.

    Love your enemies---that one is plain stupid. Just ask the folks next door to Jeffery Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson. Not to mention the Osbourns!! Trying to be nice to your enemy sets you up to be destroyed. Dum. I don't like or agree with it.

    How about women being in subjection? I am sure you agree with that. Well, as you probably figured, I don't. Never will. Stupid statement. When you can think with your heads and not your penises, you might have the upper hand. (ask Sampson about his friend Delilah) Until then, I think women have proven, time and again, we are not to be taken lightly. Paul was pretty slick putting that one in. In one statement, he destroyed how many female lives. (and I don't mean just dubs)

    Love God---Hmmmm, again, I am going to have to disagree. At least I can wrap my arms around my husband. I know he is for real. God does not have the best track record here.

    Gumby,

    Where can I find something to read about the pagan beliefs that the Bible writers adapted? I would be very interested in this. Does anyone else have any info? It may have been posted before and I missed it.

    I have a website that is has a lot of interesting info on it about the origins of the Hebrew/Christian beliefs and stories mentioned in the bible. Here are some of the more pertenant links to this subject.

    http://www.mystae.com/restricted/streams/thera/thera.html this has quite a few links on it dealing with the eruption of the volcano Thera and it's effect on soceity and religion in that day

    http://www.mystae.com/restricted/streams/thera/egypt.html this has many interesting Egyption and Hebrew writings that seem to be of one source, or in the least extreamy simular

    http://www.mystae.com/restricted/streams/thera/canaan.html this page discusses the beginings of civilation in the canaan area and how the Hebrews came into play there and the results (a few pertinant links here as well.

    http://www.mystae.com/restricted/streams/scripts/influence.html Sumerian influence on the Egyption and eventually the Hebrew beleifs

    http://www.mystae.com/restricted/streams/thera/hapiru.html The actual study of the Hebrews in Egypt and if they were ever really there.

    http://www.mystae.com/restricted/streams/scripts/watchers.html an interesting research on the "Sons of God" and the Sumerian beleifs in the Watchers and the Nephillam (quite a few links at the bottom of the page that tie to this subject)

    http://www.mystae.com/restricted/streams/science/flood.html some of the origins of the flood and its scientific, or lack there of, evidence.

    I hope someof this helps you, there are many other pages, some of which you will be able to access through thses links
