Do you think that you expect too much from people? Do you often get disappointed when expectations are not realized?

Do you think that you expect too much from people?

No, not really. I don't expect a lot. I tend to expect too much from myself, and expect to be let down by others. Force of habit.

Do you often get disappointed when expectations are not realized?
    Yes. Mostly with myself.

"I will not be insulted, cussed or laid hands upon. I dont do these things to other people and I will not stand to have them done to me."

spoken by John Wayne in the film "The Shootist" (1976

_______________________________________________________ " I've always followed my father's advice: he told me, first to always keep my word and, second, to never insult anybody unintentionally. If I insult you, you can be goddamn sure I intend to. And, third, he told me not to go around looking for trouble." -John Wayne

Minimus, just to paraphrase part of the Bible, "Treat others like you would like to be treated."

But I have become quite cynical as I grow older. I have learned to expect nothing then I am never disappointed but many times pleasantly surprised.

We can't expect much from strangers, but we can expect more from friends. And we should expect alot more from Brothers. I expected brothers to act like brothers, when I was expecting their help. Nothing came. So now I know that the word Brother, means nothing at all. Yes I did expect alot from people called brothers, but now I know better. People in general are selfish, and don't help .But to answer your question, "what do you expect from people". I would say that, I expect them to be as good to me as I always was towards them.

Well, being a witness, one of my BIG mistakes was expecting too much of others.

I.E. whatever I was taught during my study and to the point of sacrificing my true personality, relationships with others and my marriage, I totally and utterly EXPECTED that I would be treated in like manner from my fellow witnesses.

    Not an effing chance.

Long stories and endless ramblings omitted, however, the whole jw experience has taught me to be more tolerant with people and to expect only what can be given by individuals, given their circumstanses.

I expect to be disappointed, so when people do something noteworthy, I am pleasantly surprised

When I read some of the verbal battles that go here, ( I've been in a few, too), I really think that people have to lighten up. People tend to take themselves, way too seriously. We all have something that we can offer but no one has it all. Some get mad at EVERYTHING. They are almost never content. They always complain. "This site sucks. Simon sucks. You suck."......It's always a "spirit of complaint". Too much fluff, too many questions, not enough "meat" from the "smart" posters.....People always complain. Why not look for the good in people? Why not TRY to get along? Why call people nasty names? Does it make the person feel better about themselves? Are they that insecure? If we are kind toward others, we may have a group of people that we might not always agree with but , at least, we will feel that they are indeed our "friends".I think that if we can resolve to "play nice" with one another, this board will continue to be "THE PLACE" to go to help our fellow posters and lurkers.

I expect little more than respect.

I believe that "birds of a feather DO flock together", so basically only people like me will hang around me.

Intelligent as ever keep it up.
